Wee Forest Folks 

Dollmasters is delighted 

to introduce a family of 

fanciful miniature mice, 

handcrafted in the USA by 

the Petersen family since 

1972. Annette Petersen 

crafted her first little 

mouse nearly four decades 

ago, and today is joined in the wee mouse 

world by Annette, Willy and Donna, the next 

generation of Petersens. They describe their 

creative process this way. "We make the mold, 

cast it, and a little mouse begins to emerge. 

Meticulous hand-painting and an enormous 

amount of patience and time brings each 

sculpture to life". All of the Wee Forest Folks 

are hand-crafted entirely in the small town of 

Carlisle in eastern Massachusetts.

From across the vast Pacific ocean, Dollmasters 

presents a series of traditional wooden Japanese play 

dolls known as Kokeshi. The kokeshi doll tradition 

is centuries-old in Japan. The carved wooden 

dolls seem initially simplistic in design, but closer 

examination reveals incredibly detailed carving 

such as hair accents and ruffles in clothing. Most 

of the Kokeshi dolls are produced from Japanese 

dogwood trees, well known for their white bark and 

fine grain. All carving and painting is hand-done by 

experienced artisans.

maternal ancestry, a then unknown Canadian 

artist named Palmer Cox created a group of 

playful sprites known as the Brownies and he

Magazine. Like the greats, Rose O’Neill and 

Johnny Gruelle, Palmer Cox filled his world 

with a wide array of fanciful characters, and

arrangements and miniature settings that were offered in exclusive small boutiques and in the lavish Parisian 

Etrennes catalogs of luxury department stores. Today, a talented French artist has restored a selection of 

these extremely-rare luxury objects for us, mostly made with the original antique pieces, dolls, fabrics, boxes, 

and other materials. They are available in very limited number – some only one, few more than half a dozen

corset, and evidently the Paris corset shop, Buscs a l'Ours, 

thought so, too. Because about 1920 Buscs a l'Ours introduced 

an eye-catching promotional poster featuring over 35 bears 

busily trying on corsets in their showroom. The poster was so 

popular that it was offered as a premium by the store for several 

decades. Dollmasters has found a small cache of the firm-back

Peter Bear was first produced in 1924 by the 

German firm of Gebr. Sussenguth which designed 

his unusual facial features and eye movements. 

Although production of the bear ended nearly 

70 years ago, a small stock of assembly parts for 

the bear remained. Recently, that stock has been 

uncovered and Peter Bears have been assembled 

just for Dollmasters. Though the mohair is 

today’s, every other single part of Peter Bear, 

including his unusual paper mache armature and 

flirty glass eyes, are the authentic originals. 15"H.
