The vertical clearances for objects which cross the main alignment of the Project are listed in Table 3-31 below. Such clearances should be adopted to ensure availability of height allowance between the expressway and road crossings. However, as for the preliminary design, the pavement structure of expressway is designed similar to that of the HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway Project and highway class A1. Although the traffic volume criteria for the Project is smaller than that of HCMC-Trung Luong section, the pavement design applied to HCMC-Trung Luong section is the minimum design requirement for expressway pavement structures. It is recommended to finalize asphalt concrete pavement structures during the detailed design stage. The following three types of pavement compositions were selected in the TEDI F/S. i) Pavement Structure for Expressway The pavement surface is made of asphalt concrete and coated with very thin overlay (thickness = 3 cm). Required elastic modulus of the structure is Eyc 191 MPa. The specific structure of the pavement is as follows (Figure 3-44):
