Students are selected by a faculty committee to be the College’s Outstanding Graduate and<br />

Undergraduate Student. The committee considers the student’s application, resume and letter of<br />

recommendation in awarding this honor.<br />

Membership in Beta alpha Psi is offered to junior and senior students who have a 3.0 GPA<br />

with a declared concentration in accounting, finance, or information systems and who will have<br />

the opportunity for self-development and affiliation among members and practicing business<br />

professionals, The Iota Eta Chapter founded in 1997, has been nationally awarded Superior Chapter<br />

for the last three years and has come to be a well recognized organization in the local business<br />

community. Beta Alpha Psi sashes are black and red.<br />

Membership in Beta gamma sigma is offered by invitation only to the top 10 percent of juniors and<br />

seniors and the top 20 percent of business master’s students, only at institutions accredited by the<br />

prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACBS International). This is the<br />

highest business honor society recognition internationally. The CSUSB Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma<br />

was chartered in 1995 and has been awarded Exemplary Chapter status by BGS Headquarters for the<br />

last three years in a row. Sashes are royal blue and gold.<br />

eta sigma gamma is the National Health Education Honorary Society, with headquarters on the<br />

campus of Ball <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> in Muncie, Ind. The Delta Delta chapter of ESG was installed on the<br />

CSUSB campus on May 5, 1998. Membership requirements include a 3.0 GPA, and participation in a<br />

minimum of two professional or club events per year. Annual club activities have included organizing<br />

and sponsoring the HSCI Winter and Spring Banquets, participation in the American Cancer Society’s<br />

Relay for Life (which ESG began on the CSUSB campus), hosting the American Lung Association<br />

Inland Empire Conference at CSUSB, tree-planting, a Valentine’s Day Rose Sale, club T-shirt sale, plus<br />

sponsoring a quarterly “Meet the Professional” for Health Science students. Membership is currently<br />

open to all health science undergraduate and graduate students; dues are $10 per quarter. New<br />

members are inducted bi-annually at the winter or spring banquet.<br />

Lambda Pi eta, the national honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA),<br />

recognizes, fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement by students in the discipline of<br />

communication studies, promotes and encourages professional development among communication<br />

majors, and provides them with opportunities to discuss and exchange ideas, establish and maintain<br />

closer relationships with faculty, and explore options for graduate education in the discipline.<br />

Omicron Delta Epsilon is one of the world’s largest academic honor societies. Its objectives include<br />

recognizing outstanding scholastic achievement in economics; establishing closer ties between<br />

students and faculty of economics within and across universities; publishing its official journal, The<br />

American Economist; and sponsoring panels at professional meetings as well as the Irving Fisher and<br />

Frank W. Taussig research competitions. The CSUSB chapter of ODE is called Alpha Delta and was<br />

founded in 1985.<br />

The purpose of the Phi alpha honor society is to provide a closer bond among students of social<br />

work and promote humanitarian goals and ideas. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for<br />

social work students and invites into membership, those who have attained excellence in scholarship<br />

and achievement in social work.
