AIDS IN CODEX STANDARDS (AGENDA ITEM 4a)<br />

HIGHLIGHTS OF DISCUSSION<br />

The in-session working group on endorsement was held at<br />

1.00 – 2.00 pm on Monday 14/3/2011 chaired by Australia.<br />

Report of the working group is in CRD 3.<br />

The Delegation of Australia, speaking as the Chair of the insession<br />

Working Group on Endorsement, introduced the report<br />

of the in-session Working Group, as presented in CRD 3, <strong>and</strong><br />

emphasised that the Working Group had agreed not to reopen<br />

discussion on technological justification issues that had been<br />

extensively discussed in the Committee for Processed Fruit <strong>and</strong><br />

Vegetables (CCPFV) <strong>and</strong> in the FAO/WHO Coordinating<br />

Committee for Asia (CCASIA).<br />

The Committee considered <strong>and</strong> endorsed recommendations of<br />

the in-session WG <strong>and</strong> made the following changes <strong>and</strong><br />

comments.<br />

Vegetables<br />

Proposed draft St<strong>and</strong>ard for Desiccated Coconut (revision of<br />

CODEX STAN 177-1991)<br />

*Note: During the in-session WG there were support for both<br />

option 1 <strong>and</strong> option 2 as proposed in the working document.<br />

Those in favour of option 1 were of the view that GSFA should<br />

be the single reference point for food additive provisions. The<br />

WG finally agreed to propose endorsement of section 4.1 <strong>and</strong><br />

4.2 as in CRD 3 <strong>and</strong> amendment to the food additives<br />

provisions for antioxidants <strong>and</strong> preservatives of food category<br />

04.1.2.2 to clarify the use of sulphites in dessicated coconut.<br />

COMMITTEE'S DECISION<br />

The Committee endorsed the food<br />

additives provisions in the<br />

proposed draft St<strong>and</strong>ard for<br />

Desiccated Coconut, as proposed<br />

by the CCPFV.<br />

The Committee further agreed to<br />

amend the food additive provisions<br />

for antioxidants <strong>and</strong><br />

preservatives of food category<br />
