THE MAGADINO PLAIN IS TICINO’S VEGETABLE GARDEN, AND A
FAVOURITE DESTINATION FOR SPORTS-LOVING FAMILIES.
If you travel from “Monte Ceneri” towards Bellinzona at
night, you feel like an aeroplane landing at Los Angeles: a large,
broad plain stretches out before you, lights twinkle everywhere - a
wonderful view.

However, the Magadino plain is not Los Angeles, but a very
large garden. Here grow most of the more than 3’000 tonnes of
tomatoes that Ticino supplies to Swiss wholesalers – so quickly,
that 24 hours after they are picked, you can already find them in
the shops. The other vegetables also grow with the claim to maximum
purity: the agricultural cooperatives completely reject genetically
modified produce. A real garden of Eden!
As the Magadino plain is so broad and flat, it is also well
suited to sports lovers, particularly families: in-line skating, cycling
and riding are favourite activities. Even flying! Not like an
aircraft landing at L.A., but more like your first tandem parachute
jump.
