ody mapping SM zone-by-zone zone 1 back of right leg Look and feel for circulatory changes, fluid retention and atopic dermatitis. Evidence of varicose veins and capillary damage may be obvious on the backs of the legs. Be advised that this may contraindicate certain treatments and applied pressure. Changes to circulation and fluid accumulation may contribute to cellulite conditions. Both circulatory changes and fluid retention may be attributed to standing for long periods of time or a sedentary lifestyle. Toxic accumulation due to diet and lack of exercise may also be considered. Inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis may develop behind the knees and be red and itchy. zone 2 back of left leg Same as Zone 1. zone 3 lower back and buttocks Toxic accumulation, breakouts on buttocks, sciatica, muscular stress in the lower back, fluid retention around the sacrum and stretch marks. Check elimination processes, diet and exercise patterns. Pre-menstrual women may develop fluid retention around the sacrum area causing sensitivity to pressure and lower back discomfort. Spinal alignment in the lower back may cause sciatica and muscular tension. Stretch marks may be the result of weight fluctuations or pregnancy. zone 4 upper back and shoulders Changes in spinal and postural alignment and muscular tension. Look for acne breakouts and sun damage. Both muscular tension and acne breakouts may be due to stress. Assess stress levels and posture at work. Acne may be the result of friction from synthetic or tight clothing. Sun damage may be present as pigmentation changes and/or skin lesions develop. Monitor and record changes to moles and pre-cancerous lesions (this may apply to all zones). Zone 4 can link to the lung region, so check respiratory function. zone 5 back of left arm Check for skin disorders such as keratosis pilaris, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Skin may also be dry or show signs of sun damage. Muscle tone may be poor. Skin conditions may be due to diet and deficiencies. Assess vitamin intake and whether your client supplements his/ her diet. Stress may prompt outbreaks of atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Accumulation of uric acid in the body may also cause roughness of the skin tissue – check water consumption. zone 6 back of right arm Same as Zone 5. zone 7 left foot Look for tissue and color changes, fluid retention and viral/fungal infections. The feet can indicate postural alignment and changes to circulation and lymphatics. Check with your client as to the type of job and form of exercise he/she does, as this may be the reason for excessive skin build-up on the feet. Infections may be due to poor aeration of the feet or not drying properly between the toes. In some instances, this may also be the result of poor elimination processes. If you are familiar with reflexology, use this as a guide to understanding a little more about your client. zone 8 front of left leg Look and feel for dry skin, ingrown hairs and circulation changes. Toxic accumulation may be evident on upper thighs. Product use, including alkaline soaps and depilatory creams may result in dry, itchy skin conditions. Check water consumption and diet, which may contribute to dehydration. Regular body exfoliation may help with ingrown hairs. Waxing may have caused post-inflammatory pigmentation and sensitized skin. Keratosis pilaris may manifest on the upper thighs if the skin is dry. zone 9 right foot Same as Zone 7. the book professional services | body mapping SM | body mapping SM zone-by-zone 197
