Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
ADADBS logical Delete of fields
Disables field in FDT but retains field data in database
field cannot be descriptor or parent of spec. descriptor
Group or PE group can be specified: all contained fields and groups are
deleted
ADACMP DECOMPRESS omits data from deleted fields
Example: ADADBS DELFN FILE=14,FIELDLIST='AG,CG,PZ'
Or via AOS
10 May 2011 | Software AG - Get There Faster | 22

ADADBS logical Delete of fields
Example: ADADBS UNDELFN FILE=14,FIELDLIST='AG,CG,PZ'
10 May 2011 | Software AG - Get There Faster | 24

Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
ADADBS DELDE logically Deletes a descriptor
descriptor cannot be used in search commands or logical reads but
descriptor data is maintained and updated in the index
Inverted Lists are still maintained
Example: ADADBS DELDE FILE=14,DESCRIPTOR=S1
ADAREP FDT output:
SUB I S1 I 4 I A I DE,DL I AO ( 1 - 4) I
SUPER I S2 I 26 I A I DE,DL I AO ( 1 - 6) I
10 May 2011 | Software AG - Get There Faster | 25

Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
ADADBS UNDELDE reinstates a logically deleted descriptor
Example: ADADBS UNDELDE FILE=14,DESCRIPTOR=S1
Can now be used in READS/FINDS
10 May 2011 | Software AG - Get There Faster | 26

Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
Putting Files in Read-Only State
Allows specific files to be in read-only state during maintenance;
comparable to the ‘In Parallel’ AOS function
Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
Larger FDT Enhancement
Lowercase Field definitions increases FDT from 926 to 3214 fields
WM, wM, Wm, wm are 4 distinct/valid Adabas fields
Adabas v8.2 Miscellaneous New Features/Enhancements
System Fields
Two special options:
SY (all modifications – including Adds)
CR (Insert only)
The SYFMAXUV parameter identifies the max occurrences of the audit info
the value of most recent update is at occurrence 1, the previous is at
occurrence 2 …
Cannot be part of a PE Group
ADACMP or ADADBS
Once SY/CR added cannot be changed
Can logically delete / undelete
Read Adabas C&F Manual
Delete, record is ‘physically’ removed – SY/CR fields
Can be read by Apps, but not changed
User date/time is local but stored internally in UTC
local time depends on user session Time zone parameter TZ
each user gets time according to his/her Time zone
daylight-saving-time (DST) indicator D
Open with TZ=‘time-zone-name’; Example: RB=“TZ=‘America/New York’.”
