The southwest corner of Finland is a veritable treasure chest for<br />

and the city of Turku, which was founded in 1229. Turku is a destination<br />

filled with events and refreshingly active in summertime.<br />

The coastal towns of Vaasa and Kokkola invite you for a voyage<br />

of discovery to the sunniest coast in Finland. On the other hand,<br />

Oulu is the biggest city in the northern Europe, a maritime city<br />

and a city of high technology. Ever since its foundation Oulu has<br />

also been the intellectual centre of its extensive province and of<br />

Southern Finland<br />

Southern Finland contains a variety of fascinating destinations that<br />

are easy to get to. They all have their special characteristics and<br />

open up various experiences for the visitors.<br />

Kotka – is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of<br />

Finland, at the estuary of Kymi river. Kotka is known by its port,<br />

industry and maritime festivals.<br />

Kouvola – peaceful relaxing in the Repovesi National Park or in<br />

the idyllic mill village Verla, which is also one of the Unesco world<br />

heritage sites.<br />

Lahti - the city is an interesting combination of culture and<br />

events and well-known for skiing world cup events and the Sibelius<br />

Festival<br />

Hämeenlinna - the best known attractions in the area are<br />

Häme Castle, Iittala Glass Centre and the birthplace of composer<br />

The Great Lakes District<br />

The lakes of the Great Lakes District, the largest lake district in<br />

Europe, were wrought into their fascinating form in the wake<br />

of the last ice age some 10,000 years ago. In this part of Finland<br />

there is more water than land. Cities of varying size and full of<br />

character are situated by the waters and diversity blooms in this<br />

rich encounter between east and west.<br />

Jyväskylä - located at the northern end of Lake Päijänne, the<br />

provincial capital Jyväskylä is home of the Neste Oil Rally Finland,<br />

the Finnish leg of the rally world championship.<br />

Lappeenranta - is the commercial and educational centre of<br />

South Karelia, the gateway to Lake Saimaa, to the Saimaa Canal<br />

and also to Russia.<br />

Mikkeli – lies on the shore of Lakes Saimaa, Puumala and<br />

Kyyvesi in the heart of the lakeland region. You could combine an<br />

overnight stay in Mikkeli and visit to Savonlinna Opera Festival.<br />

Kuopio and Tahko - Kuopio is the vivid and popular tourism<br />

city of the Eastern Lakeland and versatile destination Tahko is<br />

located 60km from Kuopio.<br />

Tampere - with a population of well over 200,000, Tampere is<br />

the largest inland city in the Nordic countries. Founded in 1779<br />

on the banks of the Tammerkoski Rapids - restaurants, shops and<br />

galleries have found locations there.<br />

Kajaani and Vuokatti –those into fishing will definitely enjoy<br />

the free fishing spot of Linnanvirta in Kajaani. Vuokatti is the most<br />

Levi’s enchanting fell scenery lures you to come and enjoy nature<br />

Kuusamo - there are many trails to choose from in Kuusamo<br />

for an enjoyable day out. Hiking, fishing, canoeing, river rafting,<br />
