While <strong>the</strong> above dialogue was <strong>in</strong> progress, a miscellaneous,<br />

and promiscuous conversation was go<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r parts of <strong>the</strong> room: but gradually <strong>the</strong> attention<br />

of <strong>the</strong> company began to be attracted to <strong>the</strong> topic<br />

under discussion between Mrs. Glenn and Mrs. May.<br />

Fanny Willow, who had heard but little of what had<br />

passed, ow<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> perpetual racket of her own<br />

tongue, chanced to catch some of <strong>the</strong> last remarks of<br />

Mrs. Glenn, so as to div<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong> subject of conversation:<br />
