24 DANGER IN THE DARK.<br />

Bona of wisdom, on every leaf that flutters <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

breeze; every spire of grass, and open<strong>in</strong>g flower that<br />

decorate earth's green bosom! Yet, shall we be told,<br />

it is wrong to study nature 1 That it is, at once, a<br />

duty and a gracious privilege, will appear sufficiently<br />

evident from this - <strong>the</strong> study of nature tends to<br />

purify <strong>the</strong> heart, as well as enlarge <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d, and<br />

<strong>in</strong>vigorate its powers."<br />

"Do you <strong>the</strong>n apprehend, that we should likely<br />

f<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>gs of nature always <strong>in</strong> harmony with<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>structions of <strong>the</strong> church 1"<br />

"To be candid, I must say, <strong>the</strong>re seems to me no<br />

little discrepancy."<br />
