volume of biogas, sewer gas and<br />

landfill gas<br />

All plant operators producing electricity from biogas, sewer gas<br />

or landfill gas aim to optimise processes and thus ensure greater<br />

efficiency – in other words, obtain as much methane as possible.<br />

At the same time, however, harmful components in the gas need<br />

to be kept to a minimum.<br />

Only constant monitoring of the gas composition in a plant can<br />

indicate changes before it is too late and thereby prevent<br />

prolonged outages. For example, if there is a warning of too<br />

much sulphur at the measurement location before the motor, the<br />

operator can act immediately to stop the motor from being<br />

destroyed.<br />

If the power generation is subsidised, the plant operator must<br />

regularly document the gas composition and volume.<br />

The <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> can reliably and sustainably handle<br />

all these tasks, though dirt, deposits, moisture, corrosion and<br />

fluctuating gas compositions still pose a major challenge. The<br />

intelligent compensation of pressure, temperature, moisture and<br />

gas composition means that the components can be analysed<br />

One system for <strong>stationary</strong> and mobile measurements<br />

The <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> is a combined <strong>measuring</strong> device consisting of the <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> fixed installation and a mobile<br />

®<br />

gas <strong>measuring</strong> device, namely the <strong>Multitec</strong> 540.<br />

®<br />

Depending on the version of <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> , the gas composition and volume can be automatically measured and monitored<br />

®<br />

at up to eight measurement locations. The <strong>Multitec</strong> 540 measures the values at the individual measurement locations sequentially.<br />

®<br />

The values are transferred to the <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> via an interface.<br />

®<br />

The mobile gas <strong>measuring</strong> device must be regularly maintained to guarantee accurate <strong>measuring</strong> results. The <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong><br />

allows easy maintenance for the versions with four and eight measurement locations as standard, with automatic calibration and<br />

adjustment with test gas.<br />

®<br />

The <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> fixed installation is non-wearing and low maintenance. All that is required is a regular check for dirt on the<br />

flow rate and temperature sensor and cleaning if necessary. This can be done in a few minutes whilst <strong>measuring</strong>. The mobile<br />

® <strong>Multitec</strong> 540 gas <strong>measuring</strong> device can be easily sent in for servicing. A spare device prevents disruption to operation.<br />

Mobile measurements<br />

Individual <strong>measuring</strong> locations can also be set<br />

up for mobile, i.e. manual measurement if<br />

®<br />

preferred. The <strong>Multitec</strong> 540 is simply taken<br />

®<br />

out of the <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> docking<br />

station for the measurement. When it is<br />

replaced in the docking station following a<br />

mobile measurement, the stored logs are<br />

®<br />

transferred to the <strong>Multitec</strong> <strong>BioControl</strong> and<br />

displayed.<br />

Mobile measurements allow you to integrate<br />

even remote outdoor <strong>measuring</strong> points reliably<br />

and cost-effectively in the system. ATEXcertified<br />

flow rate and temperature transmitters,<br />

which can be permanently installed outdoors,<br />

are available as optional accessories.<br />

<strong>Multitec</strong> 540 as a mobile gas <strong>measuring</strong> device<br />

®<br />

The <strong>Multitec</strong> 540 is a gas <strong>measuring</strong> device for monitoring<br />

gas mixtures that are formed in biological processes. It can<br />

measure the concentration of up to five gases in the gas mixture<br />

simultaneously. The device is fitted with infrared sensors for<br />

<strong>measuring</strong> methane and carbon dioxide as standard. It can also<br />

be fitted with electrochemical sensors.<br />

The use of infrared <strong>measuring</strong> technology for methane and<br />

carbon dioxide eliminates erroneous results caused by<br />

®<br />

interaction with other gases. The <strong>Multitec</strong> 540 is, therefore,<br />

ideal for use in biogas plants as well as waste disposal sites and<br />

sewage plants. A large screen allows all parameters to be<br />

displayed simultaneously and quickly read off at a glance.<br />
