" The influences of Tz5 Ch'an and nay Master might be<br />

compared to those of an overflow of water and the fattening<br />

rain. Wherever the water in its overflow reaches,<br />

men take note of it, while the fattening rain falls un-<br />

35. YU JO, style TZU YU, or Tzfi Jo, alias YU TZUr,<br />

to the Sage. Noted for his good memo,y and love of<br />

antiquity. In voice and appearance he so resembled Confucius<br />

that after the death of the latter the disciples<br />

proposed to put him in the Master's place. Known also<br />

as Y'u Tzfi, _- _7(. the Philosopher Yu already referred<br />

to in the Inhoducfion, whose disciples along with those<br />

of Ts_ng Tzfi are credited with the compilation of the<br />

and modesty, and for happiness in the observance of his<br />
