19. NAN-KUNG KUA, or NAN YUNG, style Tzfi
Yun Z -_ _ _-_ (_-_ or _), q¢ _ _., nan-kung Kua
and N m Y'ung are supposed to be the same person, and if
so it was he to whona Confucius gave his elder brother's
,.laughter in mxrriage. Once when tile palace of Duke Ai
was on fire, while others thought only of saving the
pelf, he bent his energies to s_ving the library, thus preserving
the Chou Li, and other ancient monuments. V.

The " Family Sayings " says he was a native of Wei _,
Forty lbur years junior to Confucius. XVhen his son died
he wept himself blind, but lived to a great age, presenting
