CONTENTS._This book contains three chapters, the<br />

first chiefly contaii'_ing sayings of the great dynastic founders,<br />

quoted from the Shu Ching, the second giving Confucius'<br />

ideas on how to govern, and the tI_ird containing an<br />

aphorism by him.<br />

CHAPTER I.--YAO, SHUN, T'ANG AND WU.--<br />

I, Iqote the lbyming formation, Shun, kung, chung, ch'iung<br />

chung. 1_ _J_ [_ _-_, etc. If the four seas be<br />

,traightened and impoverished, the honours and emolument<br />

given to you by heaven wilt forever cease. YAO reigned<br />

_3 years from B.C. 2356, wkcn he appointed Shun as<br />

administrator and successor, though he did not die till<br />

2256. The address is not found in this form in the _; _J_<br />

but i_s various sentences are found in Shun's address on his<br />

, a sigh, but it seems to be merely an exclamation.<br />
