or _ _ (]_ or _), a native of Ch'i _ or Wei _i_,
and thirty (or forty) years junior to Confucius, " dwarfish
and ugly, but of great worth and ability." When criminal
judge in Wei duty compelled him to cut off a man's feet,
who neveltheless afterwards saved his life when fleeing
from the State. Confucius praised him as being able to
administer justice without inspiring resentment. XI. 24.

_: -_ _, A native of Lu, forty two years junior to Confucius,
and noted specially for his knowledge of rites and
