From after the outpouring and onwards. C. The ;_
(v. next cap.)was a sacrifice offered, it is said, once in 5
years to the manes of file primal ancestor ?[t_ _ of the
imperial family, along with the first emperor of the dyn.,
and as such should only be offered by the Emp., but in
consequence of the meritorious service of Duke Chou ot
Lu, his nephew, the Emp. Ch'Sng (l_ son of _), had
granted him the use of imperial rites. After the libation
inviting the presence of the spirits [_ _ had been poured
on the ground, the pc1formance of the ritual in the Lu
_emple wrongly implied that King Wfin was primal ancestor
and the Duke of Chou first sovereign, an absurdity wh.
displeased Conf., hence this remark. L At the great
