3 2 There should be evidence to the Board that a The curriculum in use is adequate to produce a technician technologist and therefore reflects the requirements of relevant industry and employers b Teaching learning strategies are directed towards achieving the programme goal and objectives c Asslgnment s practical class exercises and projects reflect the objectives as well as the skills of the programme Simulated Work Experience Asslgnment s are provided The main skill areas are covered d Details of how students progress Is monitored and reviewed are available Internal quality control and procedures for assessment are satisfactory e Students communicate well verbally and In written and demonstrate awareness and under 3 3 Curriculum standing of the social economic cultural and plitical environment The curriculum In use for the programme Is adequate limd therefore notinferior tothe NBTE s approved minimum curriculum and course spec lcatlon for the I vel of training It should reflect the requirements of relevant Industry and employers and adequate in content to prepare students at appropriate level in the particular field to acquire skills that is sound theoretical background and competences to fulfil the requirements for specific job objectives In addition tb social and communication skills necessary to understand the environment and to live work and make useful contributions as a citizen 3 4 The Board shall be satisfied that a There is a curriculum for the programme designed by the department institution Its structure inciudes professional and general education courses and students industrial work experience scheme SIWES b All the courses listed in the NBTE curriculum for the programme are included c The content of each course Is adequate and similar to those contained in the NBTE curriculum d e f The curriculum content is clear to the lecturers teaching the courses Skill and professional components are adequate for the level of programme and The mode of teaching the curriculum is effective and includes lecture recitation practical exer cises projects and written exercises 4 0 RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR TEACHING THE PROGRAMME 4 1 Teaching Facilities Adequate teaching facilities accommodation for classrooms workshops and laboratories and their complement of furniture equipment tools machines and instruments are being maintained and used for teaching the programme effectively 4 2 The Board shall confirm that j c a i Adequate accommodation classrooms workshops studios laboratories and farm field facilnies as appropriate required to teach the programme are available Used factorfor each facility workshop and laboratory should not exceed 0 7 which is about 30 hours per week and in the case of classroOln lecture theatre 0 8 that is 32 hours per week Ii adequate space is provided In each facility In i above to take all machines tools and equipment work benches tables and seat and writing desks etc for the number of students in each class 30 No for technical courses and 40 for art social science based courses and for the field and farm facilities 3 i 1 J N i rri t M i ii
III full complement of equipment tools machines and instruments shown on the NBTE minimum list of equipment for each level of programme to be re accredlted are available b all new equipment are properly Installed and commissioned c all equipment in the laboratories workshOps and farm field facilities are functioning d safety provision is adequate and are being maintained and e adequate volumes of books Journals and periodicals and non book Items are available In the 5 0 STAFFING library for the programme 5 1 Teaching staff are adequate in number and competence and maintains high standard of instruction in all subjects taught In the programme Usually all academic staff Including the Head of Department should have teaching assignment 5 2 The Board shall confirm that For NO Programme a Lecturers have a minimum of a good first degree or membership of a chartered professional registration body or their equivalents In the relevant discipline and post qualification cognate work and teaching experience For HND Programme In the case of HND programmes lecturers should In addition to the qualifications listed for NO programmes have post graduate degrees Qr considerable post degree or professional registration cognate work and or teaching experience in the relevant discipline or option b teaching staff are effective In the teaching and supervision of students work and in the utilisation of all resources in the department c the teaching load for teaching staff Is averagely 15 hours per week the maximum teaching load being 18 hoursa week Staff having administrative responsibilily should have aminimum teaching load of 8 hours a week d for a single stream NO or HND programme a minimum of 4 qualified lecturers or 3 lecturers and 1 instructor where necessary are requlrlld In addition to the 4 lecturers for one option 2 addilionallecturers are required for each addilional option at the HND level Where the HND programme does not have an option a minimum of 4 lecturers are required For double or more streams the number of teaching staff may Ie pro rated e a qualified technologists technicians orfarm manager as appropriate and attendants are provided in each laboratory workshop studio or farm 6 0 STANDARD AND QUALITY OF STUDENTS WORK 6 1 The standard and quality of students work are gpod for the level of programme as demonstrated by their course work examinations practical work and projects There shall be evidence to the Board that a class tests and course work in each module course of the programme are at the level of training of the programme 1 b mid semester and end of semester examinations theory and practical adequately cover the course content are of good standard and require answers Involving in addition to understanding knowledge and application analysis synthesis and evaluation as appropriate c students performance in tests courseworkand examinations is good and indicates that they have o CC mastery of the curriculum content 4 tl ti
