SIMILAR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA<br />
1 1 <strong>Re</strong> <strong>Accreditation</strong> What it is<br />
The re accreditation <strong>of</strong> a programmeby <strong>the</strong> National Board fotTechnical Education <strong>NBTE</strong> means <strong>the</strong><br />
confirmation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recognition granted by <strong>the</strong> Board that after a period <strong>of</strong> time say five to ten years<br />
<strong>the</strong> standard and quality <strong>of</strong> education and training in <strong>the</strong> programme as determined during <strong>the</strong> initial<br />
and subsequent accreditation visits were still being maintained or have been improved upon<br />
1 2 Objectives Of <strong>Re</strong> <strong>Accreditation</strong><br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> re accreditation are similar to those <strong>of</strong> initial accreditation and Include <strong>the</strong> following<br />
a to promote and foster good quality post secondary technical education and training In <strong>diploma</strong><br />
programmes <strong>of</strong>fered by polytechnics colleges <strong>of</strong>agriculture and similar tertiary institutions leading<br />
to national awards such as <strong>the</strong> National Diploma NO and Higher National Diploma HND<br />
b to ensure parity <strong>of</strong> standards in similar <strong>diploma</strong> programmes <strong>of</strong>fered by polytechnics monotech<br />
nics such as colleges <strong>of</strong> Agriculture and similar tertiary institutions<br />
c to assistsuch institutionsand <strong>the</strong>ir various departments todevelop and nurture aculture <strong>of</strong> internal<br />
self evaluation and accountabiiity as a means <strong>of</strong> maintaining <strong>the</strong> minimum national academic<br />
standard set <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme at <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong> training and to improve upon<br />
it and<br />
d to counsel and assist established and developing institutions and programmes where necessary<br />
2 0 PROGRAMMES THAT QUALIFY FOR RE ACCREDITATION<br />
2 1 Only programmes <strong>of</strong>fered by accredited institutions that have been granted initial accreditation and or<br />
subsequent accreditation <strong>for</strong> a period <strong>of</strong> not less than five years qualify <strong>for</strong> re accreditation<br />
3 0 CRITERIA FOR RE ACCREDITING A PROGRAMME<br />
The Board in ensuring good quality training parity <strong>of</strong> standards industrial and pr<strong>of</strong>essional credibility<br />
may wish to satisfy Itselfthat <strong>the</strong> programme to be e accredited has met its established criteria These<br />
criteria are derived from issues relating to academic matters goal and objectives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme<br />
<strong>the</strong> curriculum resources avaiiable <strong>for</strong> teaching <strong>the</strong> programme satisfactory standard and quality <strong>of</strong><br />
students work effective management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> depar tment<br />
mances on <strong>the</strong> job<br />
ACADEMIC MATTERS<br />
3 1 GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME<br />

The goal and objectives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme which are to produce atechnician or technologist in <strong>the</strong><br />

activities taking piace in and <strong>the</strong> sources available to <strong>the</strong> department <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong> programme<br />
