On 13 December 2011, SCA Östrand’s new lime kiln was inaugurated. The kiln is part of the plant’s chemical recovery system and is powered by biofuel – pellets from BioNorr in Härnösand, Sweden. The new lime kiln replaces two old oilfired lime kilns and enables Östrand pulp mill to reduce its carbon emissions from fossil fuels by 80%.
