MANUAL OF WELFARE DEPARTMENT
INTRODUCTORY :
Advancement of science, inventions in various fields of
science, every change leads to ultimate goal of upliftment of
human life, their way of life, their standard of living, its
betterment is the prime factor. It is an accepted fact that
the developed or the developing countries have been
achieving their growth through higher efficiency by
providing better working conditions, better welfare facilities
to their employees. Advancement in industrialization leads
to growth, coverage of more and more people in working
class, the time and changing situations gave birth to the
concept of Labour Welfare.
A well known Economist of the ancient times, Kautilya,
has also described the importance of labour welfare which
plays key roll in the economy as, “ In the happiness of the
subjects lies the benefit of the king and in what is
beneficial to the subjects in his own benefit”. For Kautilya
the subjects and their welfare was more important than
kingship. Every idea in the Arthashastra is directed
towards this end. Thus, every CEO has to take into
consideration the welfare of his employees first, which is
ultimately, be his own benefit. The Arthashastra clearly
shows that Kautilya had a vision for the welfare of the
society.
