credited directly to staff member’s bank account. As such request from staff for advance
payment of salary is not considered.
In view of the above, the imprest cash towards salary advance amount of Rs.
80,000/- has been brought down to Rs. 40,000/-, due to the provision for advance salary in
the Service Regulations.
Technical Trade Apprentices
Though the salary of entire permanent staff of this Undertaking is made through
Electronic Clearing Service (ECS), the salaries of the Technical Trade Apprentices engaged
by Transportation Engg. Department is still made by cash. This is because, these
Apprentices find it difficult to open bank accounts as they hail from different places in
Maharashtra.
For this purpose, the EDP Department furnish a separate list indicating the amount
payable to each Apprentice. A cheque towards the entire amount payable is drawn in the
name of “State Bank of India – A/c BEST Undertaking” and handed over to Superintendent
(Ticket & Cash). Against this cheque, the amount is drawn by STC from daily traffic
earnings and payment is made in all the Depots on scheduled date of payment. The amount
of uncollected stipend is kept with respective ATC’s for two months and subsequently
deposited in Cash Department alongwith list of Apprentices which are entered in a register
maintained for the purpose. At a future date, as & when the apprentice turn up for collecting
the stipend, bill vouchers are prepared and after audit, payment in cash is made from
Counter No. 4.
The payment of stipend for Sr. Stipendiary Apprentices engaged by Training and
Industrial Engg. Department is made by cheques alongwith staff who are not covered under
