English FilE third edition
The best way to get your students talking
Our aim with the new edition
has been to make every lesson
better and more teacher-friendly.
Over the years we have met a lot of
teachers around the world when we
travelled to give teacher training sessions.
One of the things we’ve most enjoyed about
travelling has been meeting teachers. Many
of you have been involved in the work to
create the new version of English File and
your feedback has helped greatly to
shape the third edition.
We kept the bits you loved and found
successful, and built on that to bring you
a new and refreshed third edition with
inspiring new topics, stimulating activities,
and brand new digital content.
Dear Czech teachers,
English File has a reputation for getting
students to speak. One of the difficulties
students face is their lack of confidence
to talk in English. Confidence comes from
knowing they are using the language
correctly and that they are pronouncing
it correctly. Unless you have had plenty
of opportunity to practise, you don’t
feel confident to speak. In English File we
aimed to provide even more opportunity
for students to engage with the language,
to make it the best course to get
your students talking.
First all I would like to say how happy I am to be coming back to Czech Republic in
March. I was thinking all the Czech people over Christmas with the death Václav Havel,
a man whom I greatly admired, and I would like to end my mpathy to you all for his lo .
2012 is an citing year for Clive and myself – the launch English File 3rd editions. I think
most authors always feel that th could improve things that th have wri en, indeed Clive
and I en fi nd it hard to hand over the fi nal manuscript a book. But we have been lucky enough to have
been given the opportunity to revisit New English File, starting with Elementary and Pre-intermediate, and try
to make every le on b er. It has been immensely satisfying, as we en found ourselves saying to each her ‘Why
on earth didn’t we do this last time?’. In fact, just as we constantly develop as teachers, I think the same
is also true authors. Clive and I very much hope that the many things that we have learned through the
course writing English File, along with the remely useful feedback that we have received om teachers and
students all over the world, are helping us to create new editions which teachers who already know English File
will enj using even more than the previous ones, and that will tempt teachers who do n yet know it
to try it out.
I am very much looking forward to showing you parts the new editions in person,
and plaining to you our thought proce es behind all the changes.
Hoping to see you there
