[def] The vertical relationship between a concept at a higher level <strong>of</strong> a hierarchical<br />

classification and its immediate lower concept.<br />

Note: This relationship superord<strong>in</strong>ates a concept <strong>of</strong> a wider extension to a concept <strong>of</strong><br />

a narrower extension.<br />

Ex.: “Seat” is a superord<strong>in</strong>ated concept to “chair”.<br />

[es] s<strong>in</strong>cronía (f)<br />

[def] The relationship <strong>of</strong> l<strong>in</strong>guistic facts considered as occurr<strong>in</strong>g at a particular<br />

moment <strong>of</strong> the evolution <strong>of</strong> a language.<br />

Note: Descriptive and structural l<strong>in</strong>guistics proceed synchronically.<br />
