This family is Holarctic in cool temperate habitats,
and <strong>the</strong> larvae live in rotten and <strong>of</strong>ten moss
covered logs.

Adults are usually found feeding on leaves or
on flowers and some phytophagous species may
cause crop damage. Larvae feed on grasshopper
eggs, or eggs and food stores <strong>of</strong> bee nests. Genaro
(1996) gives a key to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cuba</strong>n species, as well as
data on habits and distribution.
