<strong>Retractable</strong> <strong>Gear</strong><br />

This modification to the <strong>EAA</strong> Workbench will allow you to single-handedly<br />

move your workbench around.<br />

2-x-4s needed<br />

2 8-1/2 inch<br />

2 6 inch<br />

1 17-3/4 inch<br />

1 24 inch<br />

(2) 3 1/2-inch door hinges<br />

(2) 3-inch butt/mortise hinges<br />

(2) 2-inch full swivel casters


Make the gear:<br />

Attach the 17-¾ -inch piece to the center of the 24-inch 2-x-4 using the two<br />

door hinges. Attach the casters as shown. We used 2-inch full swivel casters.<br />

gear legs:<br />

Attach the 8.5-inch<br />

piece of 2x4 to the<br />

6-inch piece with<br />

the 3-inch hinge.<br />

Note that the<br />

ends of the 6-inch<br />

piece have been<br />

chamfered. You<br />

need two of these<br />

assemblies.<br />

Attach gear to Table:<br />

Attach the 24-inch piece of the<br />

gear leg to the inside of the table’s<br />

main leg.<br />

Attach the gear legs:<br />

Attach the two gear legs as shown. Add a rope to allow you to pull the<br />

gear while lifting up on the table.<br />
