Retractable Gear

This modification to the EAA Workbench will allow you to single-handedly
move your workbench around.

(2) 3 1/2-inch door hinges
(2) 3-inch butt/mortise hinges
(2) 2-inch full swivel casters

Make the gear:
Attach the 17-¾ -inch piece to the center of the 24-inch 2-x-4 using the two
door hinges. Attach the casters as shown. We used 2-inch full swivel casters.

Make the
gear legs:

Attach the 8.5-inch
piece of 2x4 to the
6-inch piece with
the 3-inch hinge.
Note that the
ends of the 6-inch
piece have been
chamfered. You
need two of these
assemblies.

Attach gear to Table:
Attach the 24-inch piece of the
gear leg to the inside of the table’s
main leg.

Attach the gear legs:
Attach the two gear legs as shown. Add a rope to allow you to pull the
gear while lifting up on the table.
