SAINT JOHN’S PARISH ON TV!
From time to time our parish has been invited
to provide mass for the millions of
Catholics who watch daily and Sunday
mass on television. I want to make you all
aware that our parish will lead the celebration of the Eucharist
on two days in August: Sunday, August 14 at 7:00 am
(broadcast on channel 7) and Thursday, August 18 at 9:30
am (broadcast on CatholicTV channel). I would like to extend
the invitation to those who wish to join us at these TV
masses. We will leave our parish on Sunday morning, August
14 at 6:15 am to go to the studio in Boston. On Thursday,
August 18, we will leave the parish at 7:15 am to go to
the studio in Watertown. Fr. Reed and the folks at CatholicTV
like to have a few parishioners present at mass. We
will invite a lector and server. If you would like to join us as
a member of the congregation, please call Wanda at the parish
center. It is an interesting experience!
WOOD CARVINGS FROM THE HOLY LAND
On the weekend of July 30-31, there will be a sale of wood
products made in the Holy Land. These religious goods are
produced by Catholics in the Holy Land who rely on this
work to provide for themselves and their families. They
are approved by the archdiocese and the reason why we
permit them to sell their products, as we have in the past,
is because Christians in the Holy Land find it very difficult
to live there and are diminishing in numbers. They are a
small and often neglected minority in a land dominated by
Muslim and Jewish religious communities and by the political
tensions between Israel and Palestine. For reasons of
faith and justice we commend them to you for your patronage
this weekend.
AUGUST 15TH: Solemnity of the
Assumption of Mary
This holyday falls on a Monday this
year and so it is not a holyday of obligation.
We encourage you to observe
this day with mass either here
at Saint John’s at 6:45 am or at one of the
masses in neighboring parishes or at the
Carmelite chapel at the mall. We are blessed
to have many weekday masses offered everyday
and that are easily accessible to you.

DONATE A NEW ROMAN MISSAL
FOR THE ALTAR
New altar Missals will be needed this fall when
we begin using the new Roman Missal. Parishioners
are invited to consider donating one of these
new missals in memory of a loved one. The memorial
will be printed inside the front cover of
each missal. Soon we will be ordering very beautiful
editions of the missal from Magnificent publishing.
If you are interested in purchasing one of
these as a gift to the parish in memory of a loved
one, please contact our parish secretary, Wanda,
on weekdays at 978-826-7544. The donation for
these missals with a memorial inscription are:
$200 for the full size, and $100 for the chapel size.
Donations may be made payable to Saint John the
Baptist Parish and are tax deductible.

De Colores: A Cursillo Reunion with liturgy
will take place on Thursday, August 4th at

Fr. Rudy Salinas was ordained by Cardinal Don‐
ald Wuerl, the archbishop of Washington, on June
18. Father Rudy was Deacon Rudy while he was
with us this past year. Father Rudy has been as‐
signed to his parish: Saint Peter Parish, 3320 Saint
Peters Drive, Waldorf, Maryland 20601‐2359. Fa‐
ther Rudy will visit us and celebrate the 4pm Mass
on Saturday, September 17, and Mass in Spanish
at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 16. I’m sure he
appreciate our prayers and looks forward, as we
do, to his return.

In the Gospel, Jesus says: “There is no need for
them to go away; give them some food yourselves,”
and taking the five loaves and two fish,
he blest them and gave them to the disciples to
feed the crowd. Like the story of the “loaves and fish”, this
month through your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul was able to assist families in need, providing food and
other necessities for daily living. Thank You!
This summer the St. Vincent de Paul Society is
once again sending children in need to day
camp at the Peabody/Lynnfield YMCA. These
camperships were instituted in 1990 as a living
memorial to Fr. Tom Ray. This summer camp
experience expands the horizons of children
and provides a needed respite for parents.
It costs $330 to send a child to the Peabody/
Lynnfield camp for two weeks. If you would like
to help us provide this camp experience for chil‐
dren, send your donation to Fr. Tom Ray Cam‐
pership, c/o St. Vincent de Paul Society. Place
your donation in the collection basket or mail it
directly to the Parish Center. Checks should be
made out to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Do‐

DAY 1 / WED APR 11 - DEPART BOSTON
Depart from Boston Logan Airport on Alitalia Airlines for your overnight flight to Tel Aviv via Rome. Dinner and breakfast served on board.
DAY 2 / THU APR 12 - ROME / ARRIVAL TEL AVIV / TO TIBERIAS
Change of planes in Rome. Arrive in Tel Aviv. Anton Farah, our government-licensed, Christian guide, and land service agents will meet us
outside of the customs area for the transfer to the Ron Beach Hotel in Tiberias, situated at the shores of the beautiful Sea of Galilee. Time permitting,
we’ll stop at Caesarea to see ruins of the splendid city along the Mediterranean Sea built by Herod the Great, and where Peter baptized
Cornelius. The balance of the day is at your leisure for a well-earned rest and to relax by the Sea of Galilee. Dinner is at the hotel.
OVERNIGHT TIBERIAS
DAY 3 / FRI APR 13 - NAZARETH / CANA / SEPPHORIS
Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel. This morning we’ll drive across the Galilean plains to the visit the lovely hill town of Nazareth, home of St.
Joseph, Mary and Jesus during his childhood years. We’ll visit Mary’s Well, the Synagogue Church and St. Joseph’s Church. Special time will
be given to visit the Church of the Annunciation, where the Word became flesh! Mass will be celebrated. Walk through Nazareth and experience
the sights, sounds and the aromas of the bazaars. In the afternoon, we’ll drive to the town of Cana, site of the Wedding Feast where water
became wine. Our married couples will renew their wedding vows. We’ll visit Sepphoris (Zippori), the traditional home of Anne and Joachim,
the parents of the Virgin Mary. Located only four miles northwest of Nazareth, it was the leading city and capital of the Galilee district at the
time of Jesus. Although it is not mentioned in the Bible, it provides intriguing insights into life in the Galilee, particularly at the time of Jesus'
childhood. Dinner is at the hotel. OVERNIGHT TIBERIAS
DAY 4 / SAT APR 14 - MINISTRY OF JESUS AROUND THE SEA OF GALILEE
Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel. Today we’ll have a full day of sightseeing centered on the ministry of Jesus in the Galilee. Our first visit
will be on the Mount of Beatitudes for a magnificent view of the Sea of Galilee. Continue to Capernaum, Jesus’ residence during his adult years.
We’ll see the remains of St. Peter’s house and the Ancient Synagogue. Visit Tabgha and the Benedictine Basilica of the Loaves and Fishes.
Conclude with a visit to the Franciscan Church of St. Peter’s Primacy where Jesus made his appearance after the Resurrection. Enjoy St. Peter’s
fish for lunch by the sea. Then board a boat that will take us across the Sea of Galilee, passing Bethsaida, Magdala and all the sites of Jesus’
ministry. Dinner is at the hotel. OVERNIGHT TIBERIAS
DAY 5 / SUN APR 15 - CAESAREA PHILIPPI / MT. CARMEL / MT. TABOR
Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel. This morning we’ll travel across the Golan Heights (ancient Bashan) to Caesarea Philippi at the foot of Mt.
Hermon where Peter “confessed” Jesus as God’s Son. One of the principle sources of the River Jordan flows from a large spring here. Drive via
the Carmel Range to Muhraqa, the place of the sacrifice of the prophets of Baal, and renowned for the prophet Elijah and the wonders he
wrought there (1 Kings 18:20-46). From the roof of the Carmelite monastery, we’ll see the spectacular view of the northern region, the sea (1
Kings 18:43), and a spring just below (18:33). The Kishon Brook is at the bottom of the hill (18:40) in the Jezreel Valley (18:45-46). From here
we’ll continue up to Mt. Tabor, site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Ascend the mountain by taxi. Mass of the Transfiguration will be celebrated.

DAY 6 / MON APR 16 - JERICHO / JORDAN RIVER BAPTISMAL SITE / DEAD SEA
Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel. Depart the Galilee and drive south through the Jordan Valley to Jericho, the oldest continuously inhabited
city in the world, reminding us of Joshua and Zaccheus. View the Mt. of Temptation, also known as Mt. Quarantal, meaning forty. We’ll have
time for lunch on our own, and to do some shopping in Jericho. Continue to the Israeli side of the Jordan River where John baptized Jesus for
the renewal of our Baptismal vows. Drive along the Dead Sea to the Ein Bokek resort area and check-in at a spa hotel. You’ll have some time
to float in the Dead Sea and discover the unique experience of its buoyancy and healing properties. Dinner is at the hotel.
OVERNIGHT DEAD SEA
DAY 7 / TUE APR 17- MASADA / QUMRAN / MT. OF OLIVES / JERUSALEM
Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel. Begin the day with a cable car ride to the forbidding fortress of Masada, the last stronghold of Jewish resistance
to the Romans. After we climb this rock fortress by cable car, our guide will relate the tragic history of Masada dating back to 73AD. Visit
Qumran where the Essene enclave was and see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden, which shepherds discovered the in 1947.
Make the ascent up to Jerusalem passing the Judean Desert to the Mount of Olives for our first view of the holy city. Walk the Palm Sunday
Road to Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Mass will be celebrated. Continue walking the Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of
Gethsemane. We’ll check in at the religious guesthouse, The Pontifical Institute, Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, owned and operated by the
Vatican. Dinner is at the guesthouse. OVERNIGHT JERUSALEM
DAY 8 / WED APR 18 - BETHLEHEM / SHEPHERD’S FIELDS / EIN KAREM
Buffet breakfast at the guesthouse. This morning we begin with a visit to Bethlehem, the ‘House of Bread’. Visit the Church of the Nativity that
commemorates the birth of Christ seeing the manger, Crusader’s Cloister, the Grotto of St. Jerome and the Church of St. Catherine. Close to
Bethlehem, visit the Christian town of Beit Sahour (Shepherd’s Fields), where Mass will be celebrated in a hillside cave. In the afternoon, if
time permits, visit the Shrine of the Book to view the Dead Sea Scrolls. Continue with a visit to see the scale Model of the Old City of Jerusalem
during the Second Temple period, as it was at the time of Jesus. We’ll drive to Ein Karem (Arabic for the spring of vineyard) a picturesque
village located 8 km southwest of Jerusalem. It is the home of Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, the birthplace of their son St. John the Baptizer
and where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth to utter the words of the Magnificat. Visit the Church of the Visitation and the Church of St. John
the Baptizer. Dinner is at the guesthouse. OVERNIGHT JERUSALEM
DAY 9 / THU APR 19 - WESTERN WALL / SOUTHERN EXCAVATIONS / TEMPLE MOUNT / OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM
Buffet breakfast at the guesthouse. This morning we’ll begin with a visit to the Western (Wailing) Wall. Continue to the Temple Mount. Continue
to Pilate’s Judgment Hall, the Chapel of Lithostrotos, Arch Ecce Homo, the Church of St. Anne (Mary’s mother) and the Pool of Bethesda,

guesthouse, we’ll be transferred to Gethsemane to spend one hour of prayer in silence at the Rock of the Agony inside the Church of All

DAY 10 / FRI APR 20 - WAY OF THE CROSS / ST. PETER IN GALLICANTU
Buffet breakfast at the guesthouse. Early in the morning, prayerfully walk the Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa. Conclude at the
Church of the Holy Sepulchre where Mass will be celebrated. After breakfast, we’ll return to the Mt. of Olives to visit the place of Ascension
and the Church of Pater Noster (‘Our Father). Continue to David’s Tomb. Visit St. Peter in Gallicantu (the Cock Crows), where Jesus was held
in the house of the High Priest Caiphas. In the basement of the church is an array of caves. According to tradition, these caves included a jail
where Jesus was held after his arrest. On the north side of the church is an ancient staircase that you can walk down towards the Kidron Valley.
It is perhaps the passage from the upper city to the lower city during the first temple period. This evening, we’ll enjoy dinner together at a
local restaurant in Beit Sahour, or in Jerusalem. OVERNIGHT JERUSALEM
DAY 11 / SAT APR 21 - CENACLE / CHURCH OF DORMITION / LEISURE TIME
Buffet breakfast at the guesthouse. On our final day of sightseeing in Jerusalem, we’ll visit the Church of the Dormition and the Cenacle (Upper
Room). Mass will be celebrated in the Franciscan Church of the Cenacle. The balance of the day is to complete any sightseeing, and for some
leisure time to spend as you wish in the Old City of Jerusalem. Dinner is at the hotel. OVERNIGHT JERUSALEM
DAY 12 / SUN APR 22 - TEL AVIV / ROME / BOSTON
Continental breakfast. Today we bid the Holy Land ‘Shalom’. Very early morning transfer to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv for our return
flight via Alitalia Airlines to Boston, with a change of planes in Rome.

Pedimos que a todos "guerreros de fin

nuestro equipo de reparación y mejora de la parroquia.
En los años nuestro equipo ha pintado
varias habitaciones y áreas en nuestro centro parroquial
y Iglesia y hizo reparaciones a paredes,
pisos y gabinetes. Celebraríamos sus habilidades.
Vamos a trabajar alrededor de su disponibilidad.
Muchos proyectos tienen lugar los fines de semana,
pero puede hacérnoslo saber a qué hora
hay que ayudar. Uso de la ayuda voluntario nos
ha ahorrado enormes cantidades de dinero y construido
