What is annual<br />
gas <strong>servicing</strong>?<br />
It is a legal requirement to service your gas<br />
appliances once a year. The cost of this service<br />
is itemised on your rent account notice, which<br />
is sent out once a year.<br />
It is important you are at home when we visit to do your<br />
annual gas <strong>servicing</strong> appointment.<br />
When will my gas<br />
safety inspection be?<br />
We will send you a letter with details of the date and<br />
time of your appointment. If this date and time is not<br />
convenient, you must contact us to re-arrange.<br />

Why is it important?<br />
Every year around 20 people die from carbon<br />
monoxide poisoning caused by faulty gas appliances<br />
and fl ues, which have not been properly installed<br />
or maintained. Many other people are also taken ill<br />
because of their gas appliances.<br />
When gas does not burn properly carbon monoxide<br />
is produced, which is poisonous.<br />
You can’t see it<br />
You can’t taste it<br />
You can’t even smell it<br />
But carbon monoxide can kill without warning in just<br />
a matter of hours.<br />
You are at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if you<br />
do not have your appliances checked and maintained<br />
at your annual gas <strong>servicing</strong> appointment.<br />
For further information on the symptoms of carbon<br />
monoxide poisoning and the dangers, please visit the<br />
Health and Safety Executive’s website, www.hse.gov.uk.<br />
Your annual gas service check also makes sure your gas<br />
appliances are working effi ciently and this can save you<br />
money on your heating bills.<br />

You could be a winner!<br />
Keeping your appointment will not only give you piece<br />
of mind, you will also be entered into a prize draw.<br />
The draw will be made every three months and a winner<br />
will be picked at random. The winner will get £100<br />
of Victoria Centre vouchers.<br />

What if I miss<br />
an appointment?<br />
If you miss an appointment we will contact you again<br />
to rearrange.<br />
<strong>Gas</strong> <strong>servicing</strong> is for the safety of you and your family.<br />
If you do not allow us into your home to carry out your<br />
annual gas safety check, we will request an injunction<br />
from court to gain access.<br />
You will be recharged costs for this, which could<br />
be up to £1,000.<br />

What happens<br />
if my boiler needs repairs?<br />
You should ring the Repairs Call Centre<br />
on 0115 915 2222. The repair will be classed as either<br />
urgent or non urgent, depending on what type of work<br />
needs to be carried out.<br />

If you can smell gas<br />
• Immediately turn off the<br />
incoming gas supply<br />
at the meter<br />
• Open windows<br />
to ventilate<br />
the area<br />
• Call National Grid id<br />
on the gas<br />
emergency freephone phone<br />
number 0800 111 1 999.<br />
Do not wait until your our<br />
