The Artist
The name of Natia Surguladze is well
known among the worshipers of art.
Natia Surguladze was born in Batumi.
Historian and journalist by education, Natia has
worked in Urban Planning and Management
Scientific Research Institute, in the international
relations department of the Parliament of
Georgia, as Deputy Minister of Education and
Culture of Ajara and Deputy Mayor of Batumi.
At the time being, Natia Surguladze is head
of Education, Culture, Tourism and Sports
Department of Batumi City Hall. Her professional
responsibilities are connected with wellbeing
of Batumi and its citizens. Natia
Surguladze, who always welcomes new initiatives
in the cultural life of the city, has supported
and implemented many interesting
projects. Being an artist herself, she favors
talented people.
As artist, Natia Surguladze has found her own style,
which allowed her to distance from the traditional tri-plane
art. Within the limits of one color tone, she manages to
express the richness of natural palette, inner spirituality of
natural shapes. Apart from outstanding compositional solutions,
her works show unusual mastery of light-and-shade
modeling: in the lighting scheme of each painting, considerable
importance is given to reflexes - their balancing,
versatility and influence at perception are indispensable for
perfect work of art. Natia presents people quite schematically,
as silhouettes; this sketch-like quality highlights the
impression of lightness and harmony, with which the inner
world of Natia Surguladze's paintings is saturated.
Natia Surguladze's works are stored in private collections
in Georgia and abroad, and in Tempra Museum
in Valetta, Malta.
Natia Surguladze has been awarded Maltese Order
of Generosity for assistance extended to artists and support
of cultural relations between Malta and Georgia. She
stili #41. 2012
is vice-president of Maltese International Art Biennales
and member of European Modern Artists' Group.
Natia Surguladze regularly participates in exhibitions,
both in Georgia and abroad: 2007-2009 - a series of
exhibitions organized in Cologne, Hilden and Duesseldorf
(Germany) by the Duesseldorf Modern Art Museum; Art
Biennale, Valetta (Malta); 2010 - personal exhibition in
D. Kakabadze Fine Arts Gallery, Kutaisi; personal exhibition
in Batumi Art Museum.
The versatile artist also engages in clothes, fur, jewelry
and accessory design. Natia Surguladze is costume
and scene designer of theatrical performance "Potting Soil"
(the play was staged in Batumi Prison). Batumi-EXPO
