Czech Architecture Introduces Itself to Tbilisi
On May 18, exhibition of Czech architects Jan Bochan, Oleg Haman and Peter
Novak opened in UNIVERSI Exhibition Hall of the Georgian Technical University.
The exhibition was organized by Architecture, Urban Development and Design
Faculty of the Georgian Technical University and the Union of Architects of Georgia
with the support of Developer Company LIBO+ and Construction Company SASCO.
The exhibition was attended by notable members of the Georgian architectural
community, the Ambassador of Czech Republic in Georgia Mr. Josef Vrabec and
other official representatives of the Czech Embassy.
The honor of opening the exhibition and introducing the Czech architects to the
attendees was conferred upon Gocha Mikiashvili, the dean of Architecture, Urban
Development and Design Faculty of the Georgian Technical University. Welcome
speeches were also pronounced by prominent Georgian architects Giorgi Salukvadze,
Vakhtang Davitaia, David Abuladze, Chairman of the Union of Architects of Georgia.
The exhibition was a part of long-term Czech-Georgian cultural exchange tradition,
of which architecture is a comparatively new component. Though the inflow of

foreign architecture into our country is rather intense, Georgian public does not often
have a chance to attend quality architectural exhibitions, enabling the stakeholders
to gain new information, plan interesting projects and joint actions.
Our guests, participating in the exhibition, do have their say in Czech architecture.
They have successfully participated in numerous international competitions; professor
Jan Bochan, who has been elected a honorary member of Architecture Institute
at the Georgian Technical University in 2004, felt obliged to present his works to
the Georgian students, professional architects and Georgian public in General.
The exhibition will surely provide an additional incentive to development of friendly
relationship between Czech and Georgian architects. At the meeting, which professor Archil
Prangishvili, pro-rector of the Georgian Technical University, held with Miloslav Pavlic, prorector
of the Czech Technical University, and the Czech architects, it was decided to deepen
and reinforce the existing links between the Georgian and Czech Technical Universities,
arrange student exchange programs for summer workshops and internships and, possibly,
establish professional cooperation between Czech and Georgian architects.
