as <strong>the</strong> Christ} (\ton Christon I•soun\). Jesus is <strong>the</strong> direct<br />

object of <strong>the</strong> participles \didaskontes\ (teach<strong>in</strong>g) and<br />

\euaggelizomenoi\ (preach<strong>in</strong>g or evangeliz<strong>in</strong>g) while "<strong>the</strong> Christ"<br />

(\ton Christon\) is <strong>the</strong> predicate accusative. These words give<br />

<strong>the</strong> substance of <strong>the</strong> early apostolic preach<strong>in</strong>g as <strong>the</strong>se open<strong>in</strong>g<br />

chapters of Acts show, that Jesus of Nazareth is <strong>the</strong> Messiah of<br />

promise. Gamaliel had opened <strong>the</strong> prison doors for <strong>the</strong>m and <strong>the</strong>y<br />

took full advantage of <strong>the</strong> opportunity that now was <strong>the</strong>irs.<br />
