6:8 {Nay, but ye yourselves do wrong and defraud} (\alla humeis<br />

adikeite kai apostereite\). "But (adversative \alla\, on <strong>the</strong><br />

contrary) you (emphatic) do <strong>the</strong> wrong<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> robb<strong>in</strong>g" (active<br />

voices) "and that your brethren" (\kai touto adelphous\). Same<br />

idiom as at close of verse 6. The very climax of wrong-do<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

to stoop to do this with one's brethren <strong>in</strong> Christ.<br />

6:9 {The unrighteous} (\adikoi\). To rem<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong>m of <strong>the</strong> verb<br />

\adike•\ just used. {The K<strong>in</strong>gdom of God} (\<strong>the</strong>ou basileian\).<br />

Precisely, God's k<strong>in</strong>gdom. {Be not deceived} (\m• plan•s<strong>the</strong>\).<br />

Present passive imperative with negative \m•\. Do not be led<br />

astray by plausible talk to cover up s<strong>in</strong> as mere animal<br />

behaviourism. Paul has two lists <strong>in</strong> verses 9,10, one with<br />

repetition of \oute\, nei<strong>the</strong>r (fornicators, idolaters,<br />

adulterers, effem<strong>in</strong>ate, or \malakoi\, abusers of <strong>the</strong>mselves with<br />

men or \arsenokoitai\ or sodomites as <strong>in</strong> 1Ti 1:10 a late word<br />

for this horrid vice, thieves, covetous), <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r with \ou\ not<br />

(drunkards, revilers, extortioners). All <strong>the</strong>se will fall short of<br />

<strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of God. This was pla<strong>in</strong> talk to a city like Cor<strong>in</strong>th.<br />

It is needed today. It is a solemn roll call of <strong>the</strong> damned even<br />

if some of <strong>the</strong>ir names are on <strong>the</strong> church roll <strong>in</strong> Cor<strong>in</strong>th whe<strong>the</strong>r<br />

officers or ord<strong>in</strong>ary members.<br />

6:11 {And such were some of you} (\kai tauta t<strong>in</strong>es •te\). A sharp<br />

homethrust. Literally, "And <strong>the</strong>se th<strong>in</strong>gs (\tauta\, neuter plural)<br />
