The usual location of the inscriptions recording<br />

donors, benefactors and donations on mosaic<br />

floors is within a tabula ansata, a wreath, or a rectangular<br />

panel. Many of the inscriptions are placed<br />

above or below the portrayed themes; often these<br />

inscriptions show no direct connection between<br />

the donor and a particular mosaic panel. However,<br />

some inscriptions appear in odd locations,<br />

usually in close association with the mosaic ornamentation.<br />
