<strong>the</strong> three-<strong>factor</strong> model was unable to be validated conclusively, it provided <strong>the</strong> best fit <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> three primary <strong>factor</strong> models among our sample <strong>of</strong> female youth. Using <strong>the</strong><br />

requirements set out by Hu <strong>an</strong>d Bentler (1999), this model was classified as <strong>an</strong><br />

adequate fit on one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> measures <strong>of</strong> relative fit <strong>an</strong>d was classified as <strong>an</strong> excellent fit<br />

on <strong>the</strong> absolute fit index. Research among adult female <strong>of</strong>fenders that has examined<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>factor</strong> <strong>structure</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> PCL – R have shown that <strong>the</strong> three-<strong>factor</strong> model is <strong>the</strong> best<br />

model to represent <strong>the</strong> construct <strong>of</strong> female <strong>psychopathy</strong> (Jackson et al., 2002; Warren<br />

et al., 2003; Weizm<strong>an</strong>n-Henelius et al., 2010). Based on <strong>the</strong> current study’s results, <strong>the</strong><br />

three-<strong>factor</strong> model also appears promising in capturing <strong>the</strong> underlying dimensions <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>psychopathy</strong> among female youth. Indeed, <strong>the</strong> present study’s finding is partially<br />

consistent with Jones et al. (2006) who demonstrated that a modified version <strong>of</strong> this<br />

model was invari<strong>an</strong>t across sex, indicating that <strong>the</strong> same model was applicable to both<br />

genders. In <strong>the</strong>ir study, <strong>the</strong> original three-<strong>factor</strong> model did not meet acceptable<br />

requirements for goodness <strong>of</strong> fit in <strong>the</strong>ir sample <strong>of</strong> female youth; <strong>the</strong>refore, <strong>the</strong> three-<br />

<strong>factor</strong> model was modified slightly. Specifically, items 1 <strong>an</strong>d 2 (impression m<strong>an</strong>agement<br />

<strong>an</strong>d gr<strong>an</strong>diose sense <strong>of</strong> self-worth, respectively) appeared to include overlapping<br />

content based on <strong>the</strong> item descriptions in <strong>the</strong> PCL:YV m<strong>an</strong>ual, <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>an</strong> additional<br />

parameter was added to allow for covariation in <strong>the</strong> error terms. Import<strong>an</strong>tly, once<br />

modifications are made to a model, <strong>the</strong> <strong>an</strong>alysis shifts from being confirmatory to<br />

exploratory, <strong>the</strong>refore, although <strong>the</strong>ir modified three-<strong>factor</strong> model appeared to be a good<br />

fitting model, it was not able to be confirmed among <strong>the</strong>ir sample. The present study’s<br />

findings are also partially consistent with Sevecke et al. (2009) who demonstrated that<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir two CFA relative fit indices were only slightly poorer th<strong>an</strong> <strong>the</strong> st<strong>an</strong>dards suggested<br />
