THE ENGINEERING TOOLS Menu Item Contains File Options for saving text from the main window after a function is executed. Edit Copies text from the main window into the windows clipboard. Function Loads and launches Simwin functions Selecting and Executing a Function ↓ To execute a function Functions are used to generate, edit, or delete *.SIM files. Either: • Select a function from the Function Menu. —or— Click the appropriate Toolbar icon. If the function requires input, a dialogue box will appear. Each function utilises different dialogue boxes for data input. These dialogue boxes are described in the following sections of the manual. Each function command in Simwin executes the requested function and displays the results in the main Simwin display window. The text in this window may be saved to a file (using the Save item on the File menu) or copied to the Windows clipboard (using the Copy item on the Edit menu). HURON TECHNICAL MANUAL PAGE 214
Dfilter Windows Interface ↓ To start Dfilter Simwin — Dfilter Tool The Dfilter function provides a mechanism for converting one data file format to another. This conversion includes transferring text or binary data into the SIM format, and converting one SIM format to another. Dfilter reads and writes both data of fixed point precision (up to 32 bits in wordlength), and double precision floating point data. When writing fixed point data Dfilter will truncate the least significant bits of the data word. The input and output of all fixed point data used by Dfilter is written as 2's complement integers. When reading floating point data Dfilter returns a warning message if an attempt is made to write +1.0 as a 2’s complement number. If Dfilter is forced to read data outside the range of 2’s complement numbers, it will saturate the data, clipping the data outside of the valid range. • Select Dfilter on the Simwin function menu. —or— Click .
