Introduction to the SIM Tools
The SIM Tools are a suite of programs which allow the
manipulation of SIM data files. The SIM data file is the
common file format used by all Lake Technology hardware and
software. The SIM tools are used to convert to and from the
SIM file format and plot, list, generate and manipulate SIM data
files.
The SIM tools are comprised of the applications Simwin,
Plotwsim, Simscale, Wavtosim, and Simtowav. These
Programs can be found in the C:\Huron32\bin\ directory
of your installation.
Simwin is an application which provides tools for generating
and manipulating SIM data files. Simwin includes functions
for:
• Generating data, such as random noise functions.
• Tools for the manipulation of data and vector arithmetic.
• Generating window functions.
Plotwsim is a SIM file plotting utility, and provides capability
to plot files to the screen or to a printer. Plots can be made
against time, frequency or sample numbers with logarithmic or
linear axes.
Simscale is a Windows based SIM scaling utility. Its primary
function is to comparatively scale *.SIM files. This
comparative scaling provides benefits such as:
• The prevention of clipping of filters by scaling down large
amplitude filters.
• Higher signal to noise ratios by scaling up small amplitude
filters.
• Reduction in the amount of apparent volume difference
when switching between filters.
Wavtosim and Simtowav allow conversions between the SIM
file format and the Windows WAV format for audio data
streams. These two applications are provided on an ‘as is’ basis
and may not work with all WAV formats.
