A scene corresponds logically to a single soundscape that has a start time and a duration. It contains a number of tracks that will be played back simultaneously. A track is a conceptual device that describes all movement of a single sound source. Each sound source will be replayed on a Location Channel Number so each track has its own unique channel mapping. A trajectory is a conceptual device that represents a single movement sequence within a track. A trajectory has a defined start time and duration. A track may consist of multiple trajectories if the trajectories are logically separate movements. For example, the sound of a car may approach from a distance and then stop in front of the listener. Some time later, it may turn around and drive off again. The two movements can be recorded separately and dealt with as separate trajectories. An event is a location message that occurs at a defined time within a trajectory. Events are stored relative to the start time of the trajectory. This means that the first event is always at time = 0 and the last at time = duration. The duration is defined by the last event in the trajectory. An event describes the location of a sound source at a defined instant in time. Thus it has a duration of 0 and can be defined by just a start time. Conversely, scenes, tracks, and trajectories have start and end times. Trajectories cannot overlap within a track. Similarly, multiple events cannot occur at the same time within a trajectory. Figure 44 – Sonic Animator Interface Sonic Animator must be started from the Windows 2000 Start menu. It is a stand alone application and does not require the VRack to be running. A new scene must be created before trajectories can be recorded or Locator scripts imported. • Select New from the File menu and the Scene Properties dialog will appear allowing modification of the default scene settings.
