↓ To access the Binaural Decoder Altering Gain ↓ To alter the signal gain for use through headphones Specifying, Changing and Deleting the Channel Angle ↓ To specify an angle channel for the transferral of rotational information Note: The Binaural Decoder can be used in conjunction with the Sound Field Filter. It is important that the angle channel used for the orientation of the listener object (the angle channel setting in the Sound Field Filter) be different from that set in the Binaural Decoder. If the two channels are the same, confusing effects will result. ↓ To change the angle channel for the transferral of rotational information ↓ To delete the channel angle THE SIMULATION TOOLS • Click on the Binaural Decoder panel in the VRack. The main Binaural Decoder window will appear (see Figure 34). Alter the value of the gain by either: 1. Typing a value into the Gain box. — or — Click the Arrows to select the appropriate gain value. 2. Click Configure to accept the changes made to the gain levels. The angle channel selects the channel along which rotational information from a tracking device will be passed. 1. Type a number, other than zero, into the angle channel box. 2. Click Configure, this will set the angle channel to the number provided. 1. Type the new channel number into the Angle Channel box. 2. Click Configure, this will set the angle channel to the number provided. 1. Set the Angle Channel box number to 0. 2. Click Configure, this will halt the transmission of information through the Angle Channel. HURON TECHNICAL MANUAL PAGE 102

Selecting and Changing a Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) THE SIMULATION TOOLS Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) are sound filters which mimic the signal path from a sound source to the eardrums of the listener. The HRTFs used in the Binaural Decoder are read from a file stored in the directory Directory\Binaural\hrtf where Directory is defined by the path to the Huron 3.2 software directory. HRTF Description armhoriz.sim B-format Decode, Horizontal only, based on HRTF 1 armperi.sim B-format Decode, Including height, based on HRTF 1 sgbhoriz.sim B-format Decode, Horizontal only, based on HRTF 2 sgbperi.sim B-format Decode, Including height, based on HRTF 2 ↓ To alter the HRTF used by the Binaural decoder Selecting Headphones ↓ To alter the Headphone Response DSP Usage 1. Select a New HRTF from the HRTF list. 2. Click Configure to confirm the selection. Each type of headphone has a different response to various frequencies. The headphone equalisation filters used in the Binaural Decoder are read from files stored in the directory Directory\Binaural\Headphns where Directory is defined by the path to the Huron directory (usually C:\Huron32\). Currently the Binaural Decoder is supplied with a generic type of headphone. 1. Select a New Headphone Response from the Headphone List. 2. Click Configure to confirm the selection. The Binaural Decoder uses 1 DSP. HURON TECHNICAL MANUAL PAGE 103
