The Conference also included four inspiring <strong>an</strong>d stimulating keynote<br />

speakers; Prof. C. S<strong>an</strong>ting put hospitality in its h<strong>is</strong>torical perspective <strong>an</strong>d<br />

explored the concept of hospitality business within the context of sincere<br />

charity on one side <strong>an</strong>d the earning of money on the other. Mr. H. Driem,<br />

M<strong>an</strong>aging Director of the Holl<strong>an</strong>d Business Promotion Office, d<strong>is</strong>cussed<br />

the <strong>is</strong>sue of destination br<strong>an</strong>ding, stating that “… destinations are not<br />

d<strong>is</strong>covered <strong>an</strong>ymore, but they are created” <strong>an</strong>d presenting the 7 P’s of<br />

destination marketing: product, place, promotion, price, personal,<br />

perm<strong>an</strong>ent cons<strong>is</strong>ted public/private cooperation <strong>an</strong>d … passion! Mr. M.<br />

Levie, CEO of the innovative, award winning citizenM hotel group,<br />

elaborated on the <strong>is</strong>sue of innovation in hospitality <strong>an</strong>d commented on the<br />

needs <strong>an</strong>d w<strong>is</strong>hes of travellers that desire “affordable luxury”. Mr. L.<br />

Fr<strong>an</strong>kenhu<strong>is</strong>, chairm<strong>an</strong> of the PAN Parks foundation, presented h<strong>is</strong> v<strong>is</strong>ion<br />

for sustainability, wilderness protection <strong>an</strong>d tour<strong>is</strong>m. PAN Parks <strong>is</strong> the<br />

only Europe<strong>an</strong>-wide org<strong>an</strong>ization focusing on the protection of wilderness<br />

areas that applies a truly integrated approach combining wilderness<br />

protection <strong>an</strong>d sustainable tour<strong>is</strong>m development.<br />

A stimulating events program supplemented the conference<br />

presentations <strong>an</strong>d key-note speeches, offering great opportunities for<br />

enjoyment, rich social interaction <strong>an</strong>d networking. The Opening<br />

Ceremony, Receptions, <strong>an</strong>d the Gala Dinner enh<strong>an</strong>ced the experience of<br />

attendees. Moreover, the “Amsterdam Experience” featured tour<strong>is</strong>t<br />

highlights of Amsterdam. Delegates could choose among the “Heineken<br />

Experience”, i.e. a v<strong>is</strong>it at the comp<strong>an</strong>y’s facilities offering a true taste of<br />

Consumer Experience Tour<strong>is</strong>m, <strong>an</strong>d a tour at one of the main tour<strong>is</strong>t<br />

attractions of the city: the famous Red Light d<strong>is</strong>trict. Definitely, the city<br />
