colleagues. It is expected <strong>of</strong> him to be willing to assist <strong>the</strong>se people with patience <strong>an</strong>d<br />

underst<strong>an</strong>ding <strong>an</strong>d to make <strong>the</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> co-operative education programme as<br />

simple as possible.<br />

2.3.20 Honest<br />

Carrel, et al. (197:100) define honesty as being truthful in dealings with o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

The CEl should always be honest with students, student employers, faculty members <strong>an</strong>d his<br />

colleagues. Being dishonest will only make a bad impression <strong>an</strong>d will cause distrust The CEl<br />

must have <strong>the</strong> trust <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> students, employers <strong>an</strong>d <strong>the</strong> academic institution if he is to implement<br />

<strong>the</strong> co-operative education process successfully.<br />

2.3.21 Innovative<br />

The CEl should be able to apply new ideas or methods. The CEL must be innovative enough to<br />

improve <strong>the</strong> processes <strong>an</strong>d systems in place to implement <strong>an</strong>d m<strong>an</strong>age <strong>the</strong> co-operative education<br />

process. He must have <strong>the</strong> ability to identify problem areas <strong>an</strong>d find innovative solutions to solve<br />

<strong>the</strong>se problems.<br />

2.3.22 Intelligent<br />

According to Phares (1984:422), most definitions <strong>of</strong> intelligence fall into one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following broad<br />

definitional classes:<br />

• <strong>the</strong> ability to adjust to <strong>the</strong> environment adapt to new situations, or deal with a broad r<strong>an</strong>ge<br />

<strong>of</strong> situations;<br />

• <strong>the</strong> ability to leam or <strong>the</strong> capacity for education (broadly defined);<br />

• <strong>the</strong> ability to employ abstract concepts <strong>an</strong>d to use awide r<strong>an</strong>ge <strong>of</strong> symbols <strong>an</strong>d concepts.<br />
