Verbs that take either hebben or zijn<br />

There is also a group of verbs that can take either hebben or zijn as the<br />

auxiliary in the perfect tenses. There are four categories of such verbs:<br />

(a) The following verbs are conjugated with zijn if a motion to or from a<br />

particular place is mentioned (in which case they do not differ from<br />

the verbs given in 11.7.2.1 above); but if there is no motion but merely<br />

an action, they are conjugated with hebben (the asterisks are explained<br />

under b) below):<br />

joggen to jog<br />

klimmen to climb<br />

kruipen to crawl<br />

lopen to walk<br />
