these words give a slightly different connotation to the command:
Kom binnen! Come in. (neutral command)
Kom maar binnen! Please come in. (offering gentle
encouragement)
Kom even binnen! Come in for a moment.
Kom (toch) nog even Do come in anyway. (even if it is
binnen! late/your time is limited etc.)
Kom eens/’s binnen! Come in. (offering
encouragement)
Kom toch binnen! Do come in. (offering strong
encouragement)
Kom nou binnen! Come in. (expressing
impatience/irritation –
stronger than toch)
Kom nou toch binnen! Come in. (stronger than the
previous example)
These particles are never stressed; eens is very commonly pronounced
unemphatically as ’s.
Combinations of two or more of these adverbial particles are also possible
to add further nuances to statements and commands – see the fourth and
last example above. Also:
Dat moet je toch maar eens doen.
You should really do that some time.
