Study on <strong>Pr<strong>of</strong>itability</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marketing</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>IGA</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ultra-Poor under IFSUP Final Report<br />

This small amount <strong>of</strong> bottom-line resulted in very poor conditions to attract the<br />

buyers or develop any network aiming at business or market promotion. When the<br />

study team conducted FGDs with the local market owners/traders, following<br />

suggestions were important to note:<br />

- small quantity <strong>of</strong> supply cannot attract the buyers<br />

- small quantity <strong>of</strong> production has little value in the market<br />

- small scale <strong>of</strong> business inputs cost, production cost also higher<br />

- market owners or middlemen have no orientation <strong>of</strong> the small quantity<br />

producers like the beneficiary women <strong>of</strong> the project<br />

- if the women are linked with any supply chain <strong>of</strong> any production process, their<br />

business value can be increased.<br />

These comments <strong>and</strong> suggestions make the sense that:<br />

- The volume <strong>of</strong> economic transactions (volume <strong>of</strong> the produces, sellable amount)<br />

should be increased in order to assist the beneficiary women to get higher prices<br />

though self collection <strong>of</strong> their small produces <strong>and</strong> corporate selling to a large<br />

aggregator with prior contractual arrangement. Since the beneficiaries are<br />

organized as association it can organize corporate production, collection <strong>and</strong><br />

marketing<br />

- The amount <strong>of</strong> business capital should be increased<br />

- The women should be supported in a holistic way, they should be trained on<br />

business management, facilitated in the marketing process, <strong>and</strong> on the other<br />

h<strong>and</strong> potential marketing agents should be sought <strong>for</strong> the market exploration <strong>of</strong><br />

these women, women should be provided with the market in<strong>for</strong>mation, on the<br />

contrary, market owners should also be in<strong>for</strong>med about the existence <strong>of</strong> the<br />

women’s business ef<strong>for</strong>ts. So interventions should be well coordinated <strong>for</strong> the<br />

entire business<br />

- Within the framework <strong>of</strong> Family Development Plan, the <strong>IGA</strong>s should be<br />

incorporated <strong>and</strong> the sharing <strong>of</strong> labor within the family members should be<br />

ensured.<br />

The beneficiary women must act collectively <strong>and</strong> organize production <strong>of</strong><br />

recommended commodities based on future trend <strong>of</strong> dem<strong>and</strong>, supply <strong>and</strong> price<br />

structure which helps bulk sales <strong>and</strong> purchase as per market dem<strong>and</strong>. Federation<br />

must take lead to make beneficiary underst<strong>and</strong> the collective planning to produce a<br />

commodity to a volume that attract market to come to their doorstep or to a<br />

collection centre located in the federation premises<br />

4.8.2 NGO facilitation should be integrated with the Enterprise Development <strong>for</strong> Joint<br />

<strong>and</strong> Individual Beneficiary<br />
