2.4 Data Collection from Secondary Sources<br />

Basic data on crops, livestock <strong>and</strong> fisheries production as well as l<strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>and</strong> cropping<br />

patterns were collected from the Upazila <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, Livestock<br />

<strong>and</strong> Fisheries in project Upazilas.<br />

2.5 Data Collection from Primary Sources<br />

The primary sources <strong>of</strong> data were the beneficiaries <strong>and</strong> traders who are engaged in<br />

production <strong>and</strong> marketing <strong>of</strong> produces. FGDs <strong>and</strong> KIIs were conducted to collect data from<br />

them.<br />

2.6 Methods <strong>of</strong> Data Collection<br />

Since the study intended to follow participatory approach sieving both data (qualitative<br />

<strong>and</strong> quantitative) <strong>and</strong> opinions <strong>of</strong> all groups <strong>of</strong> stakeholders, the consultants used multiple<br />

methods <strong>of</strong> collecting data <strong>and</strong> opinions <strong>of</strong> the key actors <strong>of</strong> the system. Followings<br />

methods were used <strong>for</strong> data collection:<br />

Literature Review <strong>and</strong> MIS Report Analysis<br />

Key In<strong>for</strong>mant Interview (KII)<br />

Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)<br />

Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA)<br />

FGDs were also conducted with business associations <strong>and</strong> enterprises to review business <strong>and</strong><br />

market situation. The consultants discussed with concerned local <strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>and</strong> finalized the<br />

plan <strong>of</strong> field work.<br />

2.7 Literature Review <strong>and</strong> MIS Reports Analysis<br />

The NETZ <strong>and</strong> the PNGOs provided the consultants access to project implementation plan,<br />

baseline survey reports, pr<strong>of</strong>itability analysis report, progress reports as well as monitoring<br />

reports which provided basic data on the pre as well as post implementation status <strong>of</strong> Ultra<br />

poor <strong>and</strong> the type <strong>and</strong> extent <strong>of</strong> supports provided to the targeted beneficiaries. The<br />

consultants reviewed those reports <strong>and</strong> documents in order to extract in<strong>for</strong>mation on the<br />

status <strong>and</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>IGA</strong>s in the operational area <strong>of</strong> the project.<br />

2.8 Focus Group Discussion (FGDs)<br />

FGDs were conducted with the following groups:<br />

Project beneficiaries <strong>and</strong> local concerned community members,<br />

Concern <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> NETZ Partnership <strong>for</strong> Development <strong>and</strong> Justice<br />
