PLANNING APPROACH ADOPTED PSDF prepared in terms of bioregional planning principles adapted to suit the site‐specific requirements of the Northern Cape. WHAT IS BIOREGIONAL PLANNING ?? ‘Planning and land management that promote sustainable development within a specific geographical area (i.e. the bioregion), the boundaries of which are determined in accordance with environmental, social and economic criteria’ Place‐specific planning that recognise unique characteristics of planning area at all levels. Based upon local and global best‐practice , knowledge, science & technology. ……It is not about solving problems for people, but rather creating circumstances for people to solve their own problems in a way that acknowledges the uniqueness and value of each person and place….. Bioregion is defined as a ‘geographical space that contains one whole or several nested ecosystems characterised by landforms, vegetative cover, human culture and history as identified by local communities, governments and scientists’.
