Northern Cape PSDF Volume 2 H.2.2 SUBMISSION TO PROJECT STEERING COMMITTEE Office of the Premier & Department of Rural Development & Land Reform 159 December 2011 This draft of Volume 2 will be presented for consideration to the Project Steering Committee on 29 November 2011. The report needs to be considered in context of the following principles: a) Volume 2 is an inventory of the key economic, social, infrastructural and environmental characteristics of the province to be addressed in Volumes 3 and 4. The information was drawn from the data provided by the DRD&LR and the various sectors, the stakeholder consultation process undertaken, and additional sources explored by the service provider. b) The written content, maps and figures presented in Volume 2 are, in general, direct quotes from the above information base and therefore do not necessarily represent the quality and format that will characterise the work of the service provider in Volume 3 and 4 and in the final PSDF document. c) The significance of perceived inaccuracies should be adjudicated in context of their potential to have a meaningful effect on the PSDF as a whole. d) Section H: Summary of Key Aspects is the primary component of Volume 2. Committee members need to ensure that all their sectoral interests have been listed in this section. e) The process of preparing Volumes 3 and 4 would involve ongoing information‐gathering. It would therefore not be practical and appropriate to, at this stage, consider Volume 2 as a final and complete product. Volume 2 should rather be seen as ‘work in progress’ to be completed together with Volumes 3 and 4. f) The Project Management Committee accordingly recommends that Volume 2 be approved by the Project Steeering Committee.
