FISHING AND
The Namaqualand coast is the centre of the fishing and mariculture sector, and this

corridor has the primary node at Port Nolloth followed by the secondary nodes of
Hondeklip Bay and Alexander Bay.
GAMAGARA CORRIDOR This is the mining belt in the John Taolo Gaetsewe and Siyanda districts and run form
Lime Acres and Danielskuil to Hotazel in the north. This corridor focus on the
tremendous iron ore and manganese reserve in the area and being able to develop the
area to facilitate this development, but also to create a simultaneous parallel socio‐
economic contexts to provide for the community in 30 or so years when the mineral
reserves are depleted.
KIMBERLEY FOOD This follows a food producing area from Hartswater, Jankempdorp through to Prieska

via Hopetown and Douglas.
NAMAQUA INDUSTRIAL The Namaqua district has a multitude of industrial minerals such as granite, slate, mica,
MINERALS CORRIDOR clay, etc. The intention is to have a central processing and logistics hub for the different
industries and to make operators more competitive.
SKA CORRIDOR It is the area around Carnarvon and Williston but extends to include areas up to De Aar
and Upington. It spans across the district municipalities of Namaqua, Siyanda and
Pixley ka Seme.
SOLAR CORRIDOR Some of the best solar radiation areas on this planet is found in the area from Prieska to
Upington and along to Riemvasmaak.
TOURISM: LAKE GARIEP The Northern Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape Provinces are combined into this
corridor and it is centred around Lake Gariep. This area has great tourism potential.
