DELTA FORCE LEADS DSU TO 42-10 VICTORY OVER OBU<br />

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The <strong>Statesmen</strong> gained a new fan in <strong>the</strong> most<br />

unlikely place. While <strong>the</strong> team was eating at Western Sizzlin Friday<br />

night a young boy, Devin O’Brien, approached <strong>the</strong> players from DSU<br />

<strong>to</strong> sign his football. The young man walked patiently from table-<strong>to</strong>table<br />

<strong>to</strong> collect all 55 of <strong>the</strong> players’ au<strong>to</strong>graphs. Coach Rick Rhoades<br />

watched <strong>the</strong> young man as well.<br />

Upon departure of <strong>the</strong> restaurant Coach Rhoades was moved by<br />

Devin’s boyish enthusiasm <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>ed him a white DSU game jersey.<br />

The 10-year old <strong>and</strong> his entire family from Hot Springs , Ark. came <strong>to</strong><br />

Arkadelphia <strong>to</strong> cheer on his new favorite team. Devin, sporting <strong>the</strong><br />

DSU game jersey, watched first collegiate football game from <strong>the</strong><br />

sideline.<br />

The <strong>Statesmen</strong> of Delta State University moved <strong>to</strong> 5-4 overall <strong>and</strong><br />

5-3 in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gulf</strong> <strong>South</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> with a convincing 42-10 vic<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

over <strong>the</strong> (2-6; 2-5 GSC) Tigers of Ouachita Baptist.<br />

The <strong>Statesmen</strong> compiled over 600 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense for <strong>the</strong><br />

second time this season. Delta State <strong>to</strong>taled 653 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal<br />

offense with 449 through <strong>the</strong> air <strong>and</strong> 204 on <strong>the</strong> ground.<br />

Sophomore quarterback Scott Eyster inched 404 yards away<br />

from breaking Scott Butler’s career passing yardage of 6,917. In<br />

<strong>to</strong>day’s game, Eyster was 24-of-36 for 447 yards <strong>and</strong> two<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdowns through <strong>the</strong> air <strong>and</strong> gained 44 yards on <strong>the</strong> ground<br />

including two rushing <strong>to</strong>uchdowns.<br />

Leading <strong>the</strong> receiving corps was Ellis Debrow, who is two<br />

catches <strong>and</strong> two yards away from breaking Kyle Finney’s career<br />

catches record with 163 <strong>and</strong> yardage with 3,055. In <strong>to</strong>day’s game<br />

Debrow caught five passes for 144 yards <strong>and</strong> a <strong>to</strong>uchdown. Chad<br />

Ridley also had five catches on <strong>the</strong> day for 86 yards, while Rob<br />

Davis snagged five for 85 yards <strong>and</strong> a <strong>to</strong>uchdown. Radale Pearson<br />

led <strong>the</strong> ground attack with 92 yards on nine carries <strong>and</strong> a<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdown.<br />

The DSU defense only allowed one <strong>to</strong>uchdown <strong>and</strong> held <strong>the</strong> tiger<br />

offense <strong>to</strong> 332 yards of offense. Leading <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> was Will<br />

Taylor who had 10 tackles <strong>and</strong> an interception in <strong>the</strong> end zone.<br />

STATESMEN ROLL TO 62-41 WIN OVER UAM BOLL WEEVILS<br />

CLEVELAND – The Delta State University <strong>Statesmen</strong> rolled <strong>to</strong> a 62-41<br />

vic<strong>to</strong>ry over <strong>the</strong> University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils<br />

Saturday at Travis E. Parker Field. The <strong>Statesmen</strong> amassed 636yards<br />

of <strong>to</strong>tal offense <strong>and</strong> scored nine <strong>to</strong>uchdowns. It was <strong>the</strong><br />

second-straight game that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> have eclipsed <strong>the</strong> 600-yard<br />

<strong>to</strong>tal offense barrier.<br />

Scott Eyster led <strong>the</strong> way for Delta Force offense. The Hammond ,<br />

La. native completed 22-of-35 passes for 340-yards with five<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdowns <strong>and</strong> one interception. Eyster also contributed on <strong>the</strong><br />

ground, gaining 40-yards rushing with ano<strong>the</strong>r score.<br />

The s<strong>to</strong>ry of <strong>the</strong> night was senior wide receiver Ellis Debrow. The<br />

<strong>Statesmen</strong> nation watched as <strong>the</strong> Pensacola , Fla. native rewrote <strong>the</strong><br />

DSU career record book <strong>to</strong>night at Parker Field. In <strong>the</strong> first quarter,<br />

Debrow set a new school record for career receiving yards when<br />

he grabbed a 44-yard pass from Scott Eyster. The reception gave<br />

him 3,096-yards receiving in his career, breaking <strong>the</strong> old mark held by<br />

Kyle Finney (1981-84) 3,055-yards.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> second quarter, Debrow hauled in a 34-yard out route that<br />

forever solidified his name as <strong>the</strong> greatest receiver in DSU his<strong>to</strong>ry.<br />

The reception was <strong>the</strong> 164 th of his career, breaking <strong>the</strong> record of<br />

163 held by Kyle Finney as well. The senior wide-out finished <strong>the</strong><br />

night with five receptions for 148-yards <strong>and</strong> two <strong>to</strong>uchdowns. He<br />

now holds <strong>the</strong> reception record with 166 for his career.<br />

Debrow, a 2004 Harlon Hill Trophy c<strong>and</strong>idate, finished <strong>the</strong> season<br />

with 64 receptions for 1,151-yards with nine <strong>to</strong>uchdowns. For his<br />

career, Debrow has 166 receptions for 3,201-yards with 28<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdowns. All categories are Delta State University career records.<br />

The 3,201-yards receiving rank as <strong>the</strong> second most in <strong>Gulf</strong> <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Conference</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry.<br />

Eyster <strong>and</strong> Debrow were not <strong>the</strong> only <strong>Statesmen</strong> with tremendous<br />

efforts <strong>to</strong>night. Chris Parks, a senior wide receiver from Tupelo ,<br />

grabbed nine passes for 110-yards <strong>and</strong> two <strong>to</strong>uchdowns. Radale<br />

Pearson, a senior tailback from Memphis , Tenn. , added 127 yards<br />

rushing on 12 carries with one <strong>to</strong>uchdown. Jason Snell, a junior<br />

running back, added 67-yards on eight carries with a score.<br />

Senior punt returner/wide receiver Donyelle Williams made <strong>the</strong><br />

most of his one reception. The Largo , Fla. native hauled in a 12-yard<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdown pass in <strong>the</strong> fourth quarter. It was <strong>the</strong> first <strong>to</strong>uchdown of<br />

<strong>the</strong> season for Williams.<br />

Defensively, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> allowed 41-points <strong>and</strong> 436-yards of<br />

<strong>to</strong>tal offense, but made <strong>the</strong> big plays when <strong>the</strong>y were needed. Brian<br />

Bell, a senior linebacker from Memphis , Tenn. , scored a defensive<br />

<strong>to</strong>uchdown on a 32-yard interception return in <strong>the</strong> second quarter.<br />

JaJa Nebo <strong>and</strong> Pete Golding, both safeties, led <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> with 11<br />

tackles a piece. Nebo added a tackle-for-loss, a forced fumble, <strong>and</strong> a<br />

fumble recovery. Will Taylor added 10 tackles <strong>and</strong> two pbus.<br />

DSU closed <strong>the</strong> season 6-4 overall <strong>and</strong> 6-3 in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gulf</strong> <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Conference</strong>. UAM fell <strong>to</strong> 6-5 overall <strong>and</strong> 5-4 in <strong>the</strong> GSC.<br />
