STATESMEN FALL IN PIGSKIN TRACK MEET 55-52
CLEVELAND - Even though it is football season, The Statesmen of
Delta State University and the No. 25 Bears of Central Arkansas
seemed to be running their own track meet. The two teams combined
for 1,259 yards of total offense, which was 15 yards shy of the
GSC record of 1,274, but the Statesmen were on the losing end of
the deal. DSU dropped its third game in a row by a score of 55-52 to
the Bears.
With the loss Delta State falls to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the Gulf
South Conference, while UCS improves to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the
GSC.
The Statesmen offense racked up 615 yards of total offense. 457
yards were through the air and 158 were on the ground.
Statesmen quarterback Scott Eyster was clicking on all cylinders
once again. Eyster went 28-of-41 for 457 yards with six touchdown
passes. On the receiving end, Ellis Debrow led the corps with 10
catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and Chris Parks
snagged 12 for 126 yards with three touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Will Taylor and Pete Golding
racked up 12 tackles a piece.

STATESMEN SNAP LOSING SKID, DEFEAT BISON 48-14
SEARCY, Ark. – Delta State University snapped their 3-game losing
streak on a mud-slicked field and continue to stay undefeated against
Harding University as the Statesmen defeated the Bison 48-14. This
is the worst margin of defeat Harding has ever had on Homecoming.
The Statesmen also tied two First Security Stadium records,
completions with 29 and touchdowns scored with seven.
The Statesmen gained 496 yards of total offense and 27 first
downs. DSU signal caller Scott Eyster was 29-of-39 for 366 yards
with two passing touchdowns and one rushing.
Leading the receiving corps for Delta State was Chris Parks who
grabbed 11 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns with a long
of 36. Ellis Debrow caught four passes for 67 yards. The dynamic
duo of Jason Snell and Radale Pearson combined for 70 yards on the
ground. Snell rushed five times for 39-yards, while Pearson had eight
rushes for 31-yards
Leading the defense in tackles was Joac Williams. Williams had 7
tackles, 6 solo, an interception and four pass break ups. The Harding
offense gained 336 yards of total offense on 89 plays.
With the win the Statesmen improve to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the
Gulf South Conference, while the Bison dropped their third game in a
row and fall to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the GSC.
I n the first half of action the Statesmen racked up 41 points on 362
yards of total offense, while the Bison were held to seven on 109
yards. Scoring first for the Statesmen was Parks on a 36-yard pass
play from Eyster at the 9:46 mark in the first quarter. The next score
came on a 5-yard scamper from Eyster with 5:59 left in the first
quarter to give the Statesmen a 14-0 lead. Delta State’s JaJa Nebo
recovered a block punt and scored on a 5-yard run, the PAT was
missed and gave the Statesmen a 20-0 lead over the Bison. Snell
scored on a 19-yard pass play from Eyster on the first play in the
second quarter to give DSU a 27-0. With 10:39 remaining in the half
Ridley scored on an 8-yard run to give the Statesmen a 34-0 lead.
