STATESMEN FALL IN PIGSKIN TRACK MEET 55-52<br />

CLEVELAND - Even though it is football season, The <strong>Statesmen</strong> of<br />

Delta State University <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> No. 25 Bears of Central Arkansas<br />

seemed <strong>to</strong> be running <strong>the</strong>ir own track meet. The two teams combined<br />

for 1,259 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense, which was 15 yards shy of <strong>the</strong><br />

GSC record of 1,274, but <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> were on <strong>the</strong> losing end of<br />

<strong>the</strong> deal. DSU dropped its third game in a row by a score of 55-52 <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Bears.<br />

With <strong>the</strong> loss Delta State falls <strong>to</strong> 3-4 overall <strong>and</strong> 3-3 in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gulf</strong><br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>, while UCS improves <strong>to</strong> 6-2 overall <strong>and</strong> 4-2 in <strong>the</strong><br />

GSC.<br />

The <strong>Statesmen</strong> offense racked up 615 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense. 457<br />

yards were through <strong>the</strong> air <strong>and</strong> 158 were on <strong>the</strong> ground.<br />

<strong>Statesmen</strong> quarterback Scott Eyster was clicking on all cylinders<br />

once again. Eyster went 28-of-41 for 457 yards with six <strong>to</strong>uchdown<br />

passes. On <strong>the</strong> receiving end, Ellis Debrow led <strong>the</strong> corps with 10<br />

catches for 150 yards <strong>and</strong> two <strong>to</strong>uchdowns, <strong>and</strong> Chris Parks<br />

snagged 12 for 126 yards with three <strong>to</strong>uchdowns.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> defensive side of <strong>the</strong> ball, Will Taylor <strong>and</strong> Pete Golding<br />

racked up 12 tackles a piece.<br />

Records Broken:<br />

• Most Touchdown Passes in a game - 6<br />

Pete Golding <strong>and</strong> Joac Williams combine <strong>to</strong> make a tackle<br />

against a Central Arkansas Bear last season.<br />

STATESMEN SNAP LOSING SKID, DEFEAT BISON 48-14<br />

SEARCY, Ark. – Delta State University snapped <strong>the</strong>ir 3-game losing<br />

streak on a mud-slicked field <strong>and</strong> continue <strong>to</strong> stay undefeated against<br />

Harding University as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> defeated <strong>the</strong> Bison 48-14. This<br />

is <strong>the</strong> worst margin of defeat Harding has ever had on Homecoming.<br />

The <strong>Statesmen</strong> also tied two First Security Stadium records,<br />

completions with 29 <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong>uchdowns scored with seven.<br />

The <strong>Statesmen</strong> gained 496 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense <strong>and</strong> 27 first<br />

downs. DSU signal caller Scott Eyster was 29-of-39 for 366 yards<br />

with two passing <strong>to</strong>uchdowns <strong>and</strong> one rushing.<br />

Leading <strong>the</strong> receiving corps for Delta State was Chris Parks who<br />

grabbed 11 catches for 108 yards <strong>and</strong> two <strong>to</strong>uchdowns with a long<br />

of 36. Ellis Debrow caught four passes for 67 yards. The dynamic<br />

duo of Jason Snell <strong>and</strong> Radale Pearson combined for 70 yards on <strong>the</strong><br />

ground. Snell rushed five times for 39-yards, while Pearson had eight<br />

rushes for 31-yards<br />

Leading <strong>the</strong> defense in tackles was Joac Williams. Williams had 7<br />

tackles, 6 solo, an interception <strong>and</strong> four pass break ups. The Harding<br />

offense gained 336 yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense on 89 plays.<br />

With <strong>the</strong> win <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> improve <strong>to</strong> 4-4 overall <strong>and</strong> 4-3 in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Gulf</strong> <strong>South</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>, while <strong>the</strong> Bison dropped <strong>the</strong>ir third game in a<br />

row <strong>and</strong> fall <strong>to</strong> 5-4 overall <strong>and</strong> 3-4 in <strong>the</strong> GSC.<br />

I n <strong>the</strong> first half of action <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> racked up 41 points on 362<br />

yards of <strong>to</strong>tal offense, while <strong>the</strong> Bison were held <strong>to</strong> seven on 109<br />

yards. Scoring first for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> was Parks on a 36-yard pass<br />

play from Eyster at <strong>the</strong> 9:46 mark in <strong>the</strong> first quarter. The next score<br />

came on a 5-yard scamper from Eyster with 5:59 left in <strong>the</strong> first<br />

quarter <strong>to</strong> give <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> a 14-0 lead. Delta State’s JaJa Nebo<br />

recovered a block punt <strong>and</strong> scored on a 5-yard run, <strong>the</strong> PAT was<br />

missed <strong>and</strong> gave <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> a 20-0 lead over <strong>the</strong> Bison. Snell<br />

scored on a 19-yard pass play from Eyster on <strong>the</strong> first play in <strong>the</strong><br />

second quarter <strong>to</strong> give DSU a 27-0. With 10:39 remaining in <strong>the</strong> half<br />

Ridley scored on an 8-yard run <strong>to</strong> give <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong> a 34-0 lead.<br />
