General Information
The 2005 edition of the Delta State University Statesmen Football Media
Guide was written, edited and published by the DSU Athletic Media
Relations Office for use by the news media.
Football Media Contacts
The media coordinator for the Statesmen football team is Director of
Athletic Media Relations Matt Jones. He will be assisted by Media
Relations Graduate Assistant Chimere Turner.
Weekly Media Services
The Athletic Media Relations Office produces a weekly release featuring
game notes, updated statistics, and other pertinent information on the
Statesmen football program. To access this release, please log on to
www.gostatesmen.com and click on football. Each week’s release will be
located on the right side of the web page. The PDF formatted
document is posted every Monday by noon.
Press Credentials
Requests for credentials for working press, photographers, television and
radio should be made to Matt Jones, Director of Athletic Media Relations.
Credentials will be available at the Media Will Call gate located on the
west side of Travis E. Parker Field. Credentials should be requested at
least seven days in advance of the game. No credentials will be mailed.
If there is a special circumstance regarding one or more of the games,
please contact the Athletic Media Relations Office.
Gameday Services
Members of the working media will be providied the following at Travis E.
Parker Field: game notes package, game program, complete statistics,
and the opportunity to interview both coaches at the conclusion of the
game. The final stat pack will be avilable 20 minutes after the game.
Radio and Television
Radio stations planning to originate a braodcast(s) from Travis E. Parker
Field should contact the Director of Athletic Media Relations at least one
week prior to the planned broadcast. Courtsey lines are providied for the
official station of the opposing school. Any other line needed will require
assistance from DSU Telecommunications (846-4030).
Player Interviews
Media members must adhere to the following guidelines regarding
Statesmen player interviews: [1] All player interviews must be coordinated
through the Athletic Media Relations office; [2] Players are available for
interviews, either at the Dorgan Center or via telephone prior to practice
(generally 1:30-4:00) and following the completion of practice; [3] Please
give at least 24 hours notice; [4] No interviews will be allowed prior to
kickoff on gameday.

There will be several working media telephone lines located in the
Pressbox at Parker Field for credit card or collect calls. Should you need
additional phone services, please contact DSU Telecommunications at
(662) 846-4030.

Coaches Interviews
Coach Rick Rhoades hosts a weekly press conference on Monday’s at
12 p.m. in the conference room of the Billy Dorgan Jr. Student
Performance Center. Rick Rhoades and his staff are also available for
interviews weekday mornings between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. in their
offices. Members of the staff will also conduct interviews after the
conclusion of practice each day. Please contact the Athletic Media
Relations Office to schedule an interview outside of this time. No
interviews will be granted before a game.
Practice
The Delta State University Statesmen have three facilities in which they
practice. Practice begins everyday at 1:30 p.m. with team meetings and
actual workouts beginning at 3 p.m. on one of the University practice
fields, Parker Field and/or the Dorgan Center. Practices are open to
the media and general public. For more information on practice times,
please contact the DSU Athletic Media Relations Office.
Parking
A limited number of media parking spaces are available at Travis E.
Parker Field. The spaces are passed out on a first come, first served
basis. It is suggested that parking passes be requested with the initial
media credential request. Should special circumstances arise, please
contact Matt Jones as soon as possible.
