Anthony Maddox...Making it in <strong>the</strong> NFL<br />

Anthony Maddox, a former<br />

All-American defensive tackle<br />

at Delta State University,<br />

begins his second season<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Jacksonville Jaguars<br />

of <strong>the</strong> National Football<br />

League.<br />

The Funs<strong>to</strong>n, Ga. native<br />

was taken in <strong>the</strong> fourth round<br />

of <strong>the</strong> 2004 NFL Draft. He<br />

was <strong>the</strong> first player taken<br />

from Delta State under head<br />

coach Rick Rhoades. Maddox was named <strong>the</strong> 2003 <strong>Gulf</strong><br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> Defensive Player of <strong>the</strong> Year <strong>and</strong><br />

Daktronics First Team All-American.<br />

Last season, Maddox began <strong>the</strong> year as a scout team<br />

defensive lineman but worked his way in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> playing<br />

rotation in mid-Oc<strong>to</strong>ber. For <strong>the</strong> season, Maddox finished <strong>the</strong><br />

year as <strong>the</strong> No.3 defensive tackle on <strong>the</strong> Jaguars roster.<br />

This season <strong>the</strong> Jags are hoping that Maddox continues <strong>to</strong><br />

develop in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> defensive force he was at Delta State. Coach<br />

Rick Rhoades said, “I believe Anthony can do whatever he<br />

puts his mind <strong>to</strong>. He will always have <strong>to</strong> go that extra mile<br />

because everyone in <strong>the</strong> NFL is always ready <strong>to</strong> play.”<br />

Rhoades added, “It all comes down <strong>to</strong> determination.”<br />

Meet <strong>the</strong> <strong>Statesmen</strong><br />

Anthony Maddox lays a hit on former Valdosta State quarterback<br />

Dusty Bonner. Maddox was a two-time All-American<br />

<strong>and</strong> fourth round draft pick of <strong>the</strong> Jacksonville Jaguars.<br />
